At Last, Marvel Seems To Have Found The Perfect Kang Replacement

Ever since Jonathan Majors’ departure from the MCU, Marvel fans have been speculating about what the studio will do next with the iconic villain. Will they recast him with another actor? Or will they simply rewrite the whole Multiverse saga with a brand-new bad guy? Marvel Studios’ next move for Kang remains a mystery, so the best we can do right now is to wait and look up some wild fan theories on the Internet.
And in case the studio wants to take the first course, there have been rumors about a potential Majors replacement that have been running around for a while. It is rumored that The Color Purple star, Colman Domingo, is the next in line to play Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. The villain role belonged to Jonathan Majors, who portrayed multiple variants of the character in the MCU since 2021, until his recent departure from the saga due to his trial results.
Colman Domingo is currently one of the rising stars in Hollywood, as he recently played Albert “Mister” Johnson in the critically acclaimed The Color Purple (2023). Before joining the coming-of-age musical drama, Domingo also starred in multiple popular movies and TV series, such as Fear The Walking Dead or Euphoria.

Of course, this is only a speculation without any solid evidence to back it up. However, Domingo is well aware of the rumors, and he even addressed it in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. Here’s what the actor had to say:
“I don't know, I'm always looking at what I have to do right now... I know there's talk and conversations around, and I don't know how much is true. I don't even get that from my team, I can't tell if it's true or not. The fans are passionate. Somehow my name is out there in the world [and] I like the idea of just having your name called and someone speaking lovingly and kindly about something is a beautiful thing,” said Domingo.

While simply confirming that there have been no talks between him and Marvel Studios so far, Colma Domingo seemed flattered that fans were associating him with the big villain role. The 54-year-old actor is also open to the possibility of playing Kang, apparently, so at least it’s a good sign for Marvel fans to cling onto.

Marvel fans were disheartened to learn that John Boyega didn’t want to join the MCU, as the Star Wars actor prefers to star in smaller, less time-consuming indie projects instead. Luckily, this isn’t the case for Colman Domingo. The actor is quite fond of the MCU, and even expressed his desire to play a future Marvel villain in an earlier interview.

“I’m worked out, I'm fit... I think I want to play a villain. I just want to be a villain. I don’t want to be the good guy. I actually want to do some really dirty, nasty work.”
Domingo even specifically stated that he only wanted to join the MCU as a villain, not as a superhero or anything else, and wasn’t afraid to do the dirty work. After Majors’ departure from the franchise, this earlier statement by Domingo once again reemerges, making him an even more prominent candidate for the role of Kang.

While Majors’ absence in the MCU could be hard to fix, Marvel Studios could introduce Domingo as an entirely new Kang variant, who clears out the original Council of Kangs and establishes his own army. At 54 years of age, Colman Domingo may be a little bit too old to play the villain, but his versatile acting chops are more than enough to make up for it.
