Marvel Leaks New Controversial Daredevil Fighting Scene, Fans Are Divided
After several delays due to different circumstances, Echo is finally coming to Disney+ on January 2024, and is the first MCU show of the year. Telling the story of the deaf martial artist Maya Reyes on her revenge quest, Echo is said to feature Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, making fans even more hyped about the series.
Recently, Marvel continued to build up the atmosphere, as they released a 1-minute fighting sequence between Daredevil himself and Maya. However, the clip didn’t create the hype wave as Marvel expected, as a lot of fans weren’t very happy with what they saw in the footage. Let’s take a look at Echo’s latest sneak peek, and find out why the community isn’t impressed by it.

#1. Echo’s Leaked Clip Is All About Pure Violence
The footage was recorded by X account Daredevil Updates, showing a broadcast on Sky Sports. In the one-minute video, we are treated to a fast-paced, spectacular one-on-one battle between Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, donning his iconic red suit and wielding his batons, inside a warehouse. The two martial arts experts constantly exchange blows and perform eye-catching acrobatic moves.
At one point, Daredevil seems to get the upper hand on Maya, but a thug tackles him sideways, allowing Maya to escape. Murdock quickly chases after her, dodges a gunshot, and then slams her through a wall. The entire fighting scene is done in one sequence, much like the iconic hallway battle in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

#2. The Fighting Sequence, Surprisingly, Received Mixed Reviews From Fans
Though the leaked fighting scene from Daredevil Updates is quite elaborate and detailed, not every fan is impressed by it. The whole Marvel fandom is divided regarding the video, as the majority claim that the fight is too slow and too overdramatic. Some even compare the entire brawl to a dance-off, with a lot of dramatic and unnecessary movements.
Meanwhile, others believe that both Charlie and Alaqua Cox have done a brilliant job with the constant acrobatic moves in the sequence. They also think that the fight has successfully showcased Daredevil and Maya Lopez’s distinguished fighting style.

From a more neutral point of view, other fans analyze that the battling style in the leaked footage is uncannily similar to Netflix’s Daredevil series and the first trailer for Echo. The dark and gritty theme of the fight, alongside the brutish blows from both parties, also further proves why Echo is an R-rated series.
While the people who criticize the footage have their rightful reasons to do so, it’s important to remember that this is probably a test version of the sequence, and it will likely get tweaked many more times before coming out as the final product.

Kingpin Will Also Return In Echo

Besides Daredevil, Echo will also welcome the return of Kingpin. Wilson Fisk, portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio, was seemingly dead at the end of the Hawkeye series, as he was shot from point-blank range by none other than Maya Lopez. Marvel fans believed that was Kingpin’s final moment in the MCU, only for him to appear again in Echo’s trailer, with a bandage over his eye.
It seems that Kingpin somehow magically survived Maya’s shot at close range, and only damaged his eye during the process. This is actually a pretty good explanation, as the villain’s strength and durability far surpass normal human beings.

What We Know About The TV Series Echo

In Echo, Alaqua Cox will portray Maya Lopez, a deaf Native American martial artist whose father got killed by Hawkeye, tipped off by Wilson Fisk. Driven by pain and rage, Maya swore revenge on both Clint and the Kingpin, and strayed down a dark path of crime and vigilantism. Maya is a martial arts expert, who has photographic reflexes to help her mimic the opponent’s movement just like Taskmaster.

As the R-rated series revolves around Maya’s Native American roots, many indigenous and Native American actors are also featured, including Devery Jacobs, Chaske Spencer, and Tantoo Cardinal. The series will also feature Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), and possibly Jessica Jones Krysten Ritter).
