This Wild Coyote Comfortably Snoozes On An Outdoor Couch Like Pet Dog
A San Francisco resident found this “beautiful” but uninvited guest lounging on their patio furniture. This wild coyote snoozing on an outdoor couch was “reluctant to move,” city animal control officers said in a news release on Friday, Nov. 3, on Facebook.
Concerned about its well-being, the resident contacted animal control for assistance. When the officer arrived, the coyote remained nonchalant, prompting the officer to engage in a friendly conversation and urging the creature to move.
“I approached the coyote and started talking to him, telling him that it was time to get up,” the officer wrote. “He looked at me, got up, took a big stretch, and made his way to the edge of the yard.”
The story of the lounging coyote in San Francisco continued as the creature gracefully hopped over a wall and disappeared into the nearby brush. Despite the initial concerns, the responding animal control officer noted that the coyote exhibited normal movement and showed no signs of ailment.
“The coyote looked like a young, healthy male that was probably recently kicked out of his den and was trying to make his way through the city,” officials said.
San Francisco is now home to an estimated 100 wild coyotes, a remarkable resurgence considering their near-extinction in the area during the 1940s.
They emphasized the positive role these creatures play in controlling the rodent population and contributing to disease prevention. While generally shy and non-aggressive, coyotes may display assertive behaviors when feeling threatened or protecting their young pups.
It's fascinating to witness wildlife snoozing on an outdoor couch. The lounging coyote in San Francisco reminds us of the delicate balance between nature and city life. Embracing coexistence with these creatures can lead to healthier ecosystems and enrich our daily experiences, right?
