Rescuers ‘Choke Back Tears’ After Finding Lonely Dog Tied Up To Tree In Cemetery

Tied behind a cemetery in Beaumont, Texas, Magnolia, a lonely and speckled dog, cried out for attention. Her desperate barks did not go unheard. Luckily, her calls for help soon reached the ears of Beaumont Animal Care staff, who dashed into the woods behind the cemetery, following the noise.
Venturing into the woods behind the cemetery, they discovered Magnolia tied to a tree. "The staff here at the shelter were so heartbroken to find her tied to a tree with no shelter or water. Magnolia’s bark had become raspy from crying for help all night,” Rachel Bush, Beaumont Animal Care veterinary technician and kennel supervisor, told their story.
Initially, Magnolia was wary of her rescuers, a natural response considering the abandonment she had endured. How could she trust people when someone had just tied her to a tree and left her there?

However, the patient and gentle approach of the animal care staff gradually won her over. With coaxing and soothing words, Magnolia began to trust that these humans were there to help, not harm.
“With some coaxing from our staff and talking to her in a calm voice, she quickly realized we were not there to hurt her,” Bush said.
Once at the shelter, Magnolia's demeanor transformed. No longer burdened by solitude, she embraced the companionship of the shelter staff and other dogs. Her days were filled with the joy of making new friends, greeting everyone who passed by, and making lots of friends.
Bush said. “She enjoys the company of her kennel mate here at the shelter and playtime in the yard.”
