Kitten Gumby Was Born With Deformed Legs, But He Never Let Anything Hold Him Back

Recently, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell (MSPCA-Angell) opened its doors to Gumby, a unique kitten with badly deformed back legs. Gumby was among a group of cats transferred from an overcrowded shelter in Texas.

Despite his unusual condition, Gumby is always such a strong and adaptable feline that he can readily adapt to his surroundings. This lovely kitten simply doesn’t let anything hold him back. With help from shelter staff, he’s tried his best to learn to get around, walk, and use the litter box, and now he can act just like any normal kitten.

“We’ve never seen a cat quite like him,” MSPCA-Angell wrote. “Gumby’s back legs are severely deformed, but he has learned to function really well despite his condition.”

Though veterinarians at MSPCA-Angell explored potential management approaches for Gumby's condition, Gumby’s current comfort and independence made them think that intervention should not be needed immediately.

“He is able to get around, and he acts like a regular kitten—he loves attention and can be a little mischievous,” MSPCA-Angell wrote. “He doesn’t let anything get him down!”

Shortly after landing at the shelter, Gumby wasted no time finding a forever home. Danielle Murr, an animal advocate and local radio personality from the North Shore in Massachusetts, became his new mom on November 29. In his newfound loving home, Gumby has a lot more furry siblings, including a dog, a cat, and a hamster. They are promised to be a warm and welcoming family for him.

Plus, with experience caring for cats with special needs, Danielle surely will be the perfect mom, who could provide Gumby with his best life ever.

“Danielle said she was drawn to Gumby because she has a lot of experience living with cats that have special needs and knows how to make sure that Gumby is living his best possible life,” Sara-Rose told We Love animals. “As you know, Gumby needs a specific home environment to thrive, and Danielle can absolutely provide that for him. We’re so excited that he found such a perfect match!”
