A couple of weeks ago, Halloween found an unexpected enthusiast in the Petito household, despite the family's initial lack of festive spirit. While the kids had outgrown the excitement of decorating for Halloween, someone else took the initiative—Bear, the family dog.

They began discovering random Halloween decorations mysteriously placed around their porch and front yard—things like pumpkins, styrofoam tombstones, and ghost figurines.

Unbeknownst to the Petitos, Bear, adorned with a "cone of shame" after recent surgery, embarked on a clandestine mission to bring Halloween cheer to their home. Despite the fenced backyard and Bear's post-surgery status, he revealed a secret talent for clandestine Halloween decorating.

The mystery of the clandestine Halloween decorator was finally unraveled when the Petitos' doorbell camera captured Bear in the act.

“When I opened the door, Bear was standing there, all proud, with a styrofoam tombstone, wagging his tail,” Petito said.

Later on, the family soon realized that Bear, despite his cone of shame, had ingeniously dug a hole beneath the back fence to embark on his nighttime escapades despite his cone. “It took us a while to figure out how he kept getting out,” Petito said.

Jennifer Petito, the family mom, amused by Bear's antics, shared the pilfered decorations on a local chat group, leading to laughter and understanding from the neighbors.

While Bear may have been busted, his sneaky Halloween crime spree turned an initially uneventful holiday into a memorable and humorous affair for the Petito family and their neighbors.

“The neighbors have all been great so far,” Petito said. “Everyone thinks it's funny.”

However, they’re hoping the crime spree ends there.

“We just had a new fence installed the other day,” Petito said. “So, hopefully, everyone's Christmas decorations will be safe.”
