Rescuers Lift Dumpster Cover And Find Sweet Soul Who Had Been Treated Like Trash

The other day, a call that no rescuer ever wants to receive reached the staff member at Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL). A Good Samaritan had witnessed a woman cruelly put a dog in a dumpster, and then she closed the dumpster’s lid without a second glance.

The SRSL's rescue team quickly sprang into action, finding the poor pup left alone in the dumpster.

When the rescue team opened the dumpster, they were met with the eyes of a full-grown pit bull staring back at them.

“She’s perfect in every way. She is not trash,” SRSL wrote on Facebook.

The pit bull, who appeared smaller when trapped within the depths of the dumpster, exhaled a sigh of relief as the compassionate faces of her rescuers peered down at her.

The rescued pit bull was okay, but the rescue team couldn't ignore the serious risk she faced with the rising temperature inside the confined space.

SRSL wrote, “We tried to hold back tears, but this really choked us up. It was so hot inside; we’re thankful she didn’t pass out.”

Donna Lochmann, SRSL's chief life-saving officer, stepped into the dumpster, carefully cradled the pup, later named Malea, and lifted her out. Then, she was taken to Donna's Jeep before heading off to SRSL’s headquarters.

However, the journey took an unexpected turn when another urgent call came in—two abandoned puppies in a downtown parking lot. The rescue team, including Malea, immediately changed their mission.

In a heartwarming twist, Hocus and Pocus, the two puppies, were in the Jeep with Malea and the rescue team. The Jeep embarked on the final leg of this emotional journey, carrying the resilient trio back to the shelter.

Unfortunately, the shelter was at full capacity, but they were able to find a perfect solution. “The puppies are in foster care, and Malea is out on a Rovernight. That’s where someone takes a dog from the shelter for a few overnights,” Lochmann said.

Now, Malea, Hocus, and Pocus are in the cozy embrace of foster homes, feeling the care of loving individuals. Their journey to finding forever homes has begun.
