A regular drive turns into a tale of compassion when Roger, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, spots a dog abandoned on the interstate. He decided to rescue the abandoned pup, never imagining how much the gentle soul would change his life.

This wasn't just any pup; it was a skinny, weak, but trusting soul, now known as R2. Most people might have continued their journey, but not Roger. The moment he stepped out of the car, R2 ran into his arms.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Roger took R2 to the vet, where they discovered the pup was infested with fleas, and his paws bore the marks of neglect.

"I would guess he was dumped a short time prior to me finding him. I don't think he could have really survived a long time on his own, and he would have wandered into traffic at some point," Roger said.

He said, "The poor pup was covered in tics and fleas. He curled up in my lap and went right to sleep. We got him into the vet the same day, where the vet said, due to his paws and how he stood, along with his discolored fur, that he was more than likely put into a crate and never let out, having to stay in his own waste."

"He also had muzzle marks on his face, like they always had one on him," he also shared.

The vet visit on the same day of the rescue marked the beginning of a journey toward healing. The pup, named after the iconic Star Wars character R2D2, will be his companion in life now, especially given how much he loves to sleep on his lap while he works.

Two weeks later, as a testament to the resilience of animals and the transformative power of genuine care, R2 exhibited a remarkable turnaround. The once emaciated frame was now robust, sores vanished, and discolored fur began to regain its luster.

Therapy sessions were introduced to address the physical remnants of a painful past, with hopes of restoring normalcy to R2's once-misshapen paws.

"The only thing we've given this pup is love. Love has allowed him to grow and flourish. We did no more than that. He is doing fantastically well now, much better than I could have ever really hoped for," he said.
