This Dog Has Been Bringing His Look-Alike Toy On Every Hike For 6 Years
This Inseparable Duo, Gumbo And Shrimp
Hana and Gumbo's adventures take on an extra layer of charm thanks to the presence of a fluffy companion—Shrimp, Gumbo's plushie lookalike.
“He loves to take his best friend and favorite toy, Shrimp, everywhere with him. He just adores and loves showing Shrimp off.” Hana said.
Their inseparable bond began when Hana purchased Shrimp from IKEA in 2017, unaware that this plush toy would become an integral part of Gumbo's life. Although Shrimp wasn't originally intended for Gumbo, the golden retriever quickly formed an unbreakable connection with his newfound friend.
Whether trekking through the scenic trails of the Pacific Northwest or simply enjoying everyday moments, Gumbo delights in showcasing Shrimp to the world. As Gumbo explores the great outdoors with Hana, Shrimp assumes the role of an enthusiastic cheerleader, accompanying them on every hike.
The Endearing Connection Between Gumbo And Shrimp Was Once Tested
While Gumbo is busy navigating the trail and reveling in the sights and scents of nature, Shrimp often resides in Hana's backpack, patiently awaiting Gumbo's moments of triumph because he doesn’t like to carry Shrimp if he’s busy paying attention to the hike and panting.
“However, now that he is 8.5 years old,” she said, “he's slowed down a lot and is usually right next to me when we hike together.”
At the end of their adventures, Gumbo delights in showcasing Shrimp to fellow hikers and even strangers, proudly parading his plushie sidekick as a testament to their shared accomplishments on the trail. This heartwarming duo not only embodies the joy of companionship but also adds a delightful touch of whimsy to the hiking community they encounter.
“I think he genuinely knows that Shrimp is a special toy,’” Hana said. “Usually, if we have or bring Shrimp, he knows we are going on an adventure.”
The endearing connection between Gumbo and Shrimp was once tested when, in the hustle of leaving a hiking trail, they inadvertently left Shrimp behind. Realizing the absence of his plushie friend, Hana drove back. "I look, and he’s perched perfectly on the trailhead sign,” Hana said.
Shrimp Is A True Part Of The Family
For those aspiring to venture into hiking with their canine companions, Hana advises thorough research on pet-friendly trails and understanding local leash laws. A well-equipped first aid kit for human and canine needs is essential for any hiking expedition.
Taking inspiration from Gumbo and Shrimp's inseparable bond, Hana encourages pet parents to consider adding a travel buddy to their plans: “Shrimp’s a part of the family. It’s Gumbo and Shrimp. You can’t replace him.” Hana said, emphasizing the irreplaceable role of these cherished companions in the family dynamic.
