The video shows the bear moving about the room, and the security guard approaches while speaking into his walkie-talkie. It appears he was unaware of the bear's location when the animal suddenly lunged at him, scratching him and knocking him to the ground.
The bear, later identified as a male, quickly retreated in the opposite direction as the injured guard crawled away and called 911 for help.

Earlier on the day of the incident, reports had come in about a bear roaming the hotel's facilities. The security guard went to investigate the kitchen, where he unexpectedly encountered the bear, resulting in the attack.

Wildlife officers arrived at the luxury resort after midnight in search of the bear but were unable to safely tranquilize and capture the animal due to public safety concerns. The bear fled the scene.
The security footage, provided by the hotel, assisted wildlife officers in confirming the bear's aggressive behavior and identifying its unique physical characteristics, which were crucial for proper identification.

Despite being found in the kitchen, officials noted the absence of food-related attractants and the cleanliness of the area. Wildlife officers from the department located, captured and euthanized the bear early on Wednesday. To safely immobilize the bear, officers used a tranquilizer gun after bringing it down from a tree using a fire ladder truck.
The bear was euthanized and sent to a Colorado Parks and Wildlife lab in Fort Collins for a necropsy.

The bear had entered the hotel by passing through multiple doors near the courtyard. Colorado Parks and Wildlife emphasized that this incident serves as a regrettable reminder that bears remain active as they prepare for hibernation. It is the responsibility of everyone to give wildlife space and to always be "bear aware" for the safety of both humans and bears.
Colorado is home to an estimated 17,000 to 20,000 bears, and the bear population in the state is described as stable and growing.
