The appearance of Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) is one of the best aspects of Marvel’s TV series WandaVision in 2021. The witch’s MCU debut creates a magic-to-magic rivalry between her and Wanda Maximoff, making her an important counterpart to the former Avenger.
Now, with Wanda seemingly dead after Doctor Strange 2, Agatha will carry on with her own spinoff series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, with Kathryn Hahn reprising the role. There is little information regarding the series as of now, but earlier this week, Marvel released some exclusive footage of the series in the WandaVision steelbook, showing us some glimpses at Agatha’s own show.
#1. Marvel Releases The First Teaser For Agatha: Darkhold Diaries
#2. The Teaser Reveals One More Mysterious Character
In the footage, we also get to see the unknown character of Joe Locke, who’s rumored to play the adolescent version of Billy Maximoff, one of Wanda’s sons created using the Hex. In the comics, Billy grows to be Wiccan, a powerful mage who inherits his mother’s magic abilities. He’s also part of the Young Avengers, a team that Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan is trying to form in the MCU.
If this theory turns out to be true, we could see the connection between Agatha and Billy in the upcoming series. With Wanda seemingly dead, the two could form a mentor-student bond, with Agatha helping Billy discover his magic capabilities.
#3. What Happened To Agatha Harkness At The End Of WandaVision?
At the beginning of the TV series, Agatha infiltrates Wanda’s Hex as Agnes, the nosy neighbor of the Maximoff household. As an experienced witch who has studied dark magic for centuries, Agatha simply cannot stand the fact that magic comes to Wanda so naturally. She then goes out of her way to try and sabotage Wanda’s life, and frees the residents of Westview from the latter’s control.
However, Wanda counters by setting runes around her house, thus trapping Agatha in the nosy neighbor persona Agnes. The immortal witch remains in Westview ever since, while Wanda collapses the Hex and goes into hiding.
#4. What Is Agatha: Darkhold Diaries’ Release Date?
So far, Marvel Studios hasn’t revealed the official release date just yet for the much-anticipated spinoff series. The series is expected to premiere on Disney+ in late 2024. A filing for the first episode with the United States Copyright Office indicates an approximate release on September 19, however, the studio hasn’t commented on this yet.
Ever since the project’s announcement, Agatha’s spinoff series has undergone three major title changes, from House of Harkness to Coven of Chaos, and then Darkhold Diaries. The last one receives backlash from the audience, who prefers to keep the name of Coven of Chaos.
