Gerard rescued Piper at the age of two, alongside his brother Radar, who sadly passed away three years ago. Before Gerard could find and rescue them, both dogs had endured malnourishment and abuse. Heartbreakingly, these traumatic experiences left Piper with significant health challenges, rendering him deaf, blind, and afflicted with dementia. These conditions made it exceedingly difficult for him to secure a loving forever home.

"Now that he is blind and deaf, once he smells me, he will slowly and cautiously head in my direction. As soon as he gets to me, he starts rubbing against me and licking me in an excited way. He wants me to pick him up and hold him right and give him smooches," Gerard said.
