When Bouncer was just a little 4-month-old cub, he got tangled up in an illegal trap in a Thai national park. Thanks to the
Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT), he got the help he needed just in time to avoid a lot of pain. But, after a check-up, the shelter had to make a tough call—they amputated his leg to make sure he could survive.
Bouncer, at that time, was only a three-legged cub who could not take care of himself. Plus, with his mother nowhere to be found, there was literally no hope for him to go back to nature. It was sad, but later, the dedicated care provided by WFFT's compassionate staff encouraged his transformation from a timid cub to the confident, resilient 19-year-old bear he is today.

“The young, three-legged Bouncer could not be returned to the wild, as his mother could not be located, and he would not survive on his own,” Paul Healey, press officer at WFFT, shared “However, our dedicated staff helped rehabilitate him; he grew from a scared little cub to the confident bear he is today.”

You know what? While the call of the wild was silenced for Bouncer, the sanctuary became his haven of contentment. Despite losing one limb, this adorable bear seems very chilled out every day, proving his indomitable spirit. His days are spent exploring and relaxing, and he doesn’t let having only three legs stand in his way.
“Missing a limb does not stop Bouncer from doing anything,” Healey said. “He has always been a keen climber, climbing all the structures in his habitat that include lookout towers.”

Yet, his real happiness can be found while lounging in a hammock with a yummy slice of watermelon. That's why, every day in the afternoon, Bouncer will climb into his favorite hammock with a piece of watermelon and settle himself in. He can spend hours there swinging and relaxing, lazing the day away. This moment is always too adorable to handle, and his carers just love to watch him enjoying himself that way.
Despite Bouncer's challenging start in life, it’s happy for us to know that WFFT was there and will always be there, rescuing not only Bouncer but also other animals facing similar situations. We are deeply grateful for the incredible work that shelters and animal organizations around the world are doing. It's truly remarkable, and we find great joy in sharing stories like this one.
