A Good Samaritan in Frome, England, reported what they believed to be a trapped otter in a drain. The suspected otter was stuck in over 3 feet of dirty water, just waiting for someone to help them.
Secret World Wildlife Rescue swiftly responded to the call, dispatching a wildlife care assistant to the scene. However, upon arrival, the rescuer discovered that the situation was not as anticipated. He quickly realized there were no otters in sight.
“It is not every day we get a phone call about an otter that turns out to be something very different,” Secret World Wildlife Rescue wrote on Facebook.
What was initially believed to be a lone otter trapped in a drain in Frome, England, turned out to be an unexpected duo of beavers seeking refuge in the confined space. They huddled together deep down in the drain.

“It was important to get them out as quickly as possible, as they were at risk of drowning if left in the storm drain,” the rescuer said.
The rescue effort revealed that one of the beavers seemed weaker than the other, making it possible that he had been trapped in the drain for longer. Wildlife care assistant Matt worked diligently to ensure the safe extraction of both beavers from the drain.
Matt added, "They are certainly bigger than you expect and really quite heavy, weighing in at about [33 pounds] each."

After a successful move from the drain, the rescued beavers were promptly transported to RSPCA West Hatch Wildlife for essential care and rehabilitation.
Under the attentive care of professionals, the beavers are thriving, enjoying a diet of snacks, and receiving the tender, loving care they need.
The ultimate goal is to prepare these resilient creatures for their return to the wild, ensuring they live comfortably in the wild, where they belong.
