In February 2023, Nina stepped into Louis's life as his foster mom. He came to FFF with some health issues. But Louis found solace and healing in Nina's caring care.
According to Nina, “I loved him from day 1 and secretly (or probably not so secretly) hoped that he would never get adopted because I loved him so much."
"Louis got along with my pack immediately and fit in like he had always been with us. He was the SWEETEST boy and such an ambassador for the pittie breed. I never heard him bark once in 8 months and he would never hurt a fly!” She added.
Nina also shared some adorable quirks that made Louis a beloved member of their foster family. She joked, "You had to watch your fingers when giving him a treat unless you wanted to lose your fingers! But he had the most insanely sweet eyes so he usually got more treats or whatever else he wanted.”
As Louis got older, he had his good days and not-so-great ones and recently one of them turned into a really tragic moment.
So, on Wednesday, things kicked off. Despite the rough day Louis had, Nina was optimistic, showering him with extra cuddles and kisses, savoring every second. But, little did she know, Thursday had a surprise.
Louis, the senior pit bull, started acting strange—panting and pale gums. Jennifer Rothman gave Nina the green light to take him to FF to ensure he was okay. In the back seat of the car, Nina held Louis's paw, unaware that his last goodbye was approaching.
"At one point, I felt tingling in his leg, and when I was able to look back, I realized that he was no longer breathing. I was shocked. I knew my time with Louis was probably limited, but I didn’t think I would lose him so soon. My biggest wish is that he hears my voice telling him how much he is loved,” she shared.
Louis took his last breath. But he felt her love for the last 8 months of his life. She expressed, “I’m devastated to share that my best boy, Louis, passed away on Thursday, October 19."
Louis's story wrapped up, leaving Nina with memories and a heavy heart. She expresses gratitude to everyone who loved and supported Louis beyond measure. Thanks to them, he lived life to the fullest, soaking up the joy and warmth he deserved.
In the last part of Louis's story, she wrote, "I wish I could have known Louis for longer. I know he was probably such a playful and stubborn pup, but I’m honored to have been able to take care of him and love him these last 8 months. I love you, Louis, and I hope you are running around pain-free with all the other FFs who were waiting for you.”
Nina and Louis's story shows how fostering can make a positive impact, especially for senior dogs. Not all heroes wear capes and people like Nina truly pave the way for a brighter future!
