In a world where countless dogs yearn for love and care, this story of a senior dog stands out as a shining example of compassion and resilience.
Princess, a 16-year-old senior pup, was abandoned at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. She was left in a tiny crate with her belongings and a heart-wrenching request.
However, thanks to the intervention of kind souls, Princess has embarked on a new journey filled with love, care, and hope.
Princess Was Abandoned And Left With Her Belongings
Princess's story began when she was found abandoned in the parking lot of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. She was confined to a small crate, her personal belongings hastily packed into shopping bags.
What made this situation even more heartbreaking was the request from her former family. “Whoever ditched this gorgeous girl asked [that] she be euthanized and all her belongings be donated to other dogs after her death,” said Georgia Dodson, director and cofounder of Miri's Haven Senior Dog Rescue.
A Second Chance For Princess
Princess's fate could have been tragic, were it not for the compassion of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and the intervention of Miri's Haven Senior Dog Rescue.
Recognizing the need for more specialized care that Princess required, the shelter reached out to Miri's Haven. Both organizations were shocked by her former family’s request to euthanize such a beautiful, deserving senior dog.
“Miri's Haven doesn't let fragile seniors die like that, and neither does the shelter that reached out,” Dodson said.
Princess deserved a second chance at a fulfilling life, and they were determined to make it happen.
Rebuilding Trust With Princess
When Princess first came to the shelter, she was very confused and disoriented. She had been left by the family she has only knew, and it really hurt her feelings The sudden change in her environment and the heartbreak of abandonment had left her emotionally scarred.
However, under the loving care of Miri's Haven, Princess started to feel better and showed everyone that she still had a lot of life in her.
“Princess is most likely hospice given her age and advanced kidney disease, but she is not in pain at present, other than the emotional upheaval of being dumped by her person,” Dodson said. “We see her thrive more and more each day, with a little TLC.”
A Loving Hospice Foster
Princess might be getting on in years, but that doesn't stop her from giving love and companionship.
Thanks to the dedication of Miri's Haven Senior Dog Rescue, Princess has found a cozy home where she will receive all the care and devotion she deserves for her remaining days. In her new environment, she can cherish her golden years in the warmth and comfort of a loving family.
