“I Just Don’t Get It” Zach Snyder Addressed Amber Heard Scandal In Shocking Manner

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Snyder spoke out to defend Heard, saying that he didn’t understand the hate the actress had to endure all these times. He also added that he “would work with her in a second,” should the chance arrive. Here’s the director’s full quote:

Snyder’s controversial comment, of course, received a lot of backlash as well from fans. Many people feel confused about why the director decided to back Heard up in the first place, especially when the court announced that the actress lost the case. Many Depp fans even threaten to boycott any movie that Snyder will direct in the future.

Ever since Johnny Depp prevailed in the 2022 trial, Snyder is one of the few people who have spoken out publicly to defend Amber Heard. Therefore, it’s not difficult to see why the director’s comment receives so much hate on social media.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s lengthy controversy began in 2016, when the actress filed a divorce. Heard then continued to sue Depp for having physically abused her, leading to the 2022 trial. The trial made headlines all over the world, damaging both sides’ reputations. In the end, the jury sided with Depp, proving his innocence, while Heard was charged with defamation. There is even solid proof that the actress physically assaulted Depp instead. 

Heard’s acting career has plummeted ever since, with several projects removing her from their plan, while also receiving heavy backlash from the public. Many even called the actress with unsavory nicknames regarding her defecation incident. Meanwhile, Depp slowly regains his reputation with the majority of people siding with him.

With the backlash against Heard, many DC fans pressured Warner Bros. on social media to drop the actress from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. As the project was already underway, the studio didn’t drop Heard, but her screen time was reportedly cut short significantly. Director James Wan explained that Heard’s reduced role was due to the sequel focusing more on Arthur and Orn’s bromance, however, fans believe the reason was entirely different.

There are even rumors about the film’s crew and Jason Momoa himself bullied Heard on-stage. Momoa reportedly taunted the actress and even wore a Johnny Depp outfit to provoke her. Meanwhile, James Wan is rumored to forbid any staff or actors to take selfies with Heard, and constantly scolded her while filming. Warner Bros., of course, has debunked these rumors.

It’s important to note that it was Snyder himself who cast Amber Heard into the DCEU. The actress made her debut in Snyder’s Justice League in 2017 as the Atlantean Mera, before reprising her role in Aquaman (2018) and Justice League Snyder Cut (2021). Therefore, it’s reasonable why Snyder stepped up to defend the actress he once recruited.
