Does Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom Have A Post-Credits Scene?

The recent release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has officially wrapped up the DCEU after its 10-year run. With James Gunn and Peter Saffren planning to reboot the entire DC Universe, the Aquaman sequel holds little meaning to neutral fans, which might explain its lackluster performance at the box office.
Instead, all eyes are on the film’s post-credits scene, as fans expect the official final sequence of the last DCEU title to somehow connect with Gunn’s new DCU. Well, good news for you, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom indeed have a post-credits scene, so let’s dive right in and find out what it means to the future of the DC Universe.

In the final battle between Arthur and Black Manta, the spirit of Kordax, Necrus’ former ruler, takes over Orm as he gets ahold of the black trident. Orm then fights Arthur, but the latter manages to destroy Kordax’s real body and the black trident. The kingdom of Necrus starts to collapse, burying Black Manta along with it.
As the Atlanteans arrive to safety, Arthur and Mera set Orm free and tell Atlantis citizens that he died during the battle, under the condition that Orm must stay hidden. Then, Aquaman reveals Atlantis’ existence to the world in a meeting with the United Nations, and expresses his idea to make the kingdom a member state.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has one post-credits sequence, just like the 2018 sequel. It arrives at the mid-credit scene of the movie, which sees Arthur Curry and Orm sitting together at a diner, enjoying their cheeseburgers. After the waitress brings Orm his burger, he sees a cockroach crawling on the table.
Orm catches the creature with his bare hands, puts it inside the burger, and eats it in front of Arthur’s face. He then makes a satisfied expression on his face, much to Arthur’s disgust. The scene ends there, and the credit starts rolling afterward.

Instead of setting up the new DCU by James Gunn, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s post-credits scene instead refers to an earlier sequence in the movie, when Orn and Arthur were walking through Devil’s Deep jungle. As the two talked about the world’s finest cuisine, Arthur tricked his younger brother into eating a living cockroach by telling him it was a common food on the surface.
Much to Aquaman’s surprise, Orm casually picked up the cockroach and ate it right away. He even seemed to enjoy the cockroach’s flavor, which amused Arthur.

Contrary to fans’ expectations, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s post-credits scene doesn’t set up or connect any events of the future DC Universe. This comes as a surprise for many, since the previous DCEU movie, The Flash, already set up the DC Multiverse after Barry Allen messed up the timeline, resulting in multiple versions of superheroes such as Batman and Superman.

However, when you think about it, it’s probably for the best that Aquaman 2 does not set up any event in the new DC Universe. James Gunn’s new DCU is a fairly new project, with many incoming changes in the future. Therefore, it’s best for DC Universe to start anew without much connection to the old DCEU, so James Gunn and his crew will have the liberty to adjust things to their liking before Superman: Legacy comes out.
What do you think about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s post-credits scene? Do you prefer it as it is, or would you want the scene to set up a DCU event instead? Let us know in the comments.
