Joker 2’s Director Teases New Exciting Photos, Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn Included
Todd Phillips’ The Joker was a huge hit in 2019, as one of the most iconic DC villains was brought to life by Joaquin Phoenix’s brilliant performance. The role also helped Phoenix win an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2020. Therefore, DC fans worldwide are on their feet for the sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, which is set to release in October 2024, especially when Lady Gaga is said to join the cast.
There haven’t been many updates so far about the movie, but recently, the show’s director, Todd Phillips, got fans all excited with 2 new photos that tease the events in Joker: Folie à Deux. Especially, one of these pictures features Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, one of the new prominent characters of the sequel. Let’s take a look at them below.

#1. The First Picture Sees Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker In Captivity
Todd Phillips shared the exciting footage on Instagram, with two pictures teasing the characters in the movie, and a caption that said: “Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a beautiful new year. Oct 2024”. A hashtag: Joker2 was included as well. The post quickly earns over 85,000 views in just hours.

The first picture that Phillips teased includes Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker sitting silently in a jail. Many believed that the villain was currently locked up in Arkham Asylum, the infamous shelter for Gotham’s most nefarious criminals and mentally unstable patients.
Arthur’s makeup has been washed off, suggesting that he was finally caught after the murder of Murray Franklin on the broadcast.

#2. The Second Image Hints At Phoenix’s Joker And Gaga’s Harley Quinn Relationship In The Movie

Meanwhile, the second picture sees Arthur, this time putting on his makeup and iconic suit, standing beside a young woman starred by Lady Gaga. This woman is believed to be Harleen Quinzel, an Arkham therapist, before taking on her persona as Harley Quinn.
In the picture, Harley doesn’t wear her clownish makeup, suggesting that this is taken before she transforms into the villainess. Despite standing right beside the notorious Joker, Harley doesn’t seem scared at all. If anything, she looks up to him with eyes of admiration, hinting at the duo’s romantic relationship in the upcoming sequel.

#3. What We Know So Far About Joker: Folie À Deux

Right from the start, Joker: Folie à Deux got us all hyped as they announced Lady Gaga would be Harley Quinn in the movie. Besides the singer, another cast is also announced, with Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie Dumond, Arthur’s neighbor in the first movie. Other actors such as Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Harry Lawtey, and Jacob Lofland are also cast in unannounced roles.
Joker: Folie à Deux is expected to be a drama/musical film, with several musical scores to be included. The film is expected to be released theatrically on October 4, 2024, so there is still plenty of time to get yourself ready and wait for new updates from Warner Bros.

#4. Will Robert Pattinson’s Batman Appear In Joker: Folie À Deux?

It is already confirmed that Matt Reeves’ The Batman and Todd Phillips’ The Joker belong to two different universes. Therefore, we won’t get to see these two iconic DC characters cross paths in the upcoming sequel. Many suggested that the version of Bruce Wayne that Arthur met in the first Joker movie is Pattinson’s Batman himself, but this rumor was quickly debunked afterward.

Phillips has more than one time declared that his film doesn’t belong to any current DC universes, including Matt Reeves’ Universe, the DCEU, and James Gunn’s rebooted DCU. In fact, the director even wants to start his own cinematic universe called DC Black, where DC characters, especially villains, get their own unique adaptations from the comics.
