Yara is actually an actress of African-American and Iranian descent, with her mother being African-American and her father being Iranian. She grew up in the neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She applied to a total of four colleges and got accepted into all of them, although the actress never reveals the full list.
Yara officially graduated Harvard in May 2022 after completing her 136-page thesis, which is titled "I Am a Man: The Emancipation of Humanness from Western Hegemony Through the Lens of Sylvia Wynter".

In 2009, she got her first cinematic role in "Imagine That".
