#2. The First Black Woman Plays Tinkerbell.

In early 2023, Disney continued to promote live-action projects from its famous animated works. On February 28, the mouse house released the live-action Peter Pan and Wendy trailer. Instead of paying attention to Peter Pan or Wendy, the public focused their attention on the character Tinkerbell played by black actor Yara Shahidi. The fact that Tinkerbell does not have the same skin color as the original has aroused a wave of controversy. Many viewers are confused when Disney constantly "changes the skin color" of the characters that are imprinted in the audience's subconscious since childhood.

Before that, the live-action version of The Little Mermaid was also criticized when Disney recruited black actor Halle Bailey to play Ariel.

The new twist in Peter Pan and Wendy is that some Lost Boys (lost boys) are replaced with Lost Girls (lost girls). The characters in the film also become more ethnically diverse. The movie's content tells the adventures of Peter Pan - the boy who can't grow up. Peter takes little Wendy to the mythical Neverland - where she can live freely without fear of growing up. #5. Everything The Peter Pan & Wendy Trailer Revealed.

While little is known about the film, anticipation for Peter Pan & Wendy has been low due to Lowery's work on the live-action Pete's Dragon, which was a critical and financial success. Lowery appears to be taking the same approach and style as his previous Disney remake, looking for a way to ground a fantastical source material while maintaining the adventurous spirit of the original. This tone is felt in the trailer with Peter's first meeting with Wendy, which retains his witty entry from the animated film.

While Molony's character was shown in previous marketing, the Peter Pan & Wendy trailer does mark the first proper looks at Shahidi's Tinker Bell and Law's Hook, both of which mark promising signs for the film. Unlike many other live-action Disney remakes that have come under fire for major character design changes, both Tink and Hook look nearly identical to their animated counterparts. Law's Peter Pan & Wendy villain does look to have been given a far more terrifying tweak to his facial features, making him look more akin to a Pirates of the Caribbean antagonist.

Another significant change the Peter Pan and Wendy trailer suggests is a more sensitive approach to adapting Tiger Lily. Many earlier Peter Pan adaptations have been chastised for perpetuating Native American stereotypes through the character. Only time will tell when Peter Pan and Wendy are released on Disney+ on April 28.
