In a chat with ET's Will Marfuggi, they revealed what drove them to return for "Naked and Afraid: Castaways" and what they aimed to achieve this time.
Candice Mishler summed it up in one word: "Redemption." She felt that her first stint on the show was too short, and she's resolute on making it to the 21-day mark this time.
Na'im McKee shared a similar sentiment. He's not just out to prove himself but to show his family that he doesn't back down from a challenge.
Unfortunately, She Had To Leave The Show Early
Candice's journey on Naked and Afraid: Castaways took a painful twist in the August 20 episode. A week into the challenge, things were going well for her and her team - until a sudden, excruciating pain struck during a meal. Her hand swelled, and the pain spread to her face and neck.
By day 9, her condition worsened. The pain and swelling intensified, with concerns about meningitis looming. A medic was called, and it was decided she had to leave the island for her safety.
Confused and in distress, Candice admitted, "I don't know if I was bit by something. I didn't feel anything. It just came out of nowhere."
Justin made a crucial call for a medic, and when the medical professional arrived, the situation grew even more serious. The medic examined Candice and was concerned by the extent of the swelling on her neck and face. He raised the alarm, stating that such swelling near the brain could potentially trigger meningitis, a condition not to be taken lightly.
A few hours later, with no improvement in Candice's condition, both the medic and a producer agreed that, for her own safety, she had to leave the island. Candice's departure was a necessary precaution. After leaving the show, she was diagnosed with a severe bacterial infection, received treatment with antibiotics, and eventually made a full recovery.

Just a mere day before, Candice hadn't entertained any thoughts of giving up on the challenge. So, when she was abruptly forced to leave, it was a devastating blow.
In her own words, she expressed her distress, saying, "My journey came to a devastating end last night on Castaways."
Candice's feelings of devastation were palpable. She didn't want to leave her team in this manner and was particularly concerned about her teammate, Rachel, who had previously injured her knee during the episode.
The impact of Candice's departure was shared by her fellow team members, Justin and Rachel. Not only were they losing a friend, but they also faced the challenge of surviving the next 12 days with one less person.
Rachel articulated her heartbreak, saying, "I am absolutely heartbroken for her because I know how badly she wanted this."
Justin, equally affected by the turn of events, acknowledged the loss, stating, "It's so unfortunate losing Candice. She's so knowledgeable … we're definitely taking a hit collectively as a team." The unexpected departure of their skilled teammate would undoubtedly be a significant challenge for the remaining duo.
it's really sad for Candice, we all hope she can recover well and come back someday with a more successful journey!
