The newly-released Episode 6 of the Disney + series brings a wrap to the whole TVA story arc, and gives our favorite God of Mischief a shocking, yet befitting conclusion to his character arc. So, how did Loki and his team deal with the branching timelines in the Temporal Loom? Why the sequel’s ending is widely considered one of the best in Marvel’s history? Let’s find out in this article.

The sixth episode, named “Glorious Purpose”, sees the Jotnar and his friend try their best to fix the TVA’s Temporal Loom to stop the multiverse branching, but to no avail. They travel to the past using Loki’s time-slipping ability, and even try to undo He Who Remains’ death, but can’t.
After so many attempts, He Who Remains eventually stops time to talk to Loki, revealing that he now has only two options: to kill Sylvie before she kills He Who Remains, or to let everything perish alongside the Temporal Loom.

Therefore, to save his friends and multiple timelines from getting destroyed, Loki makes the ultimate sacrifice: he destroys the Temporal Loom, and eventually transforms into the God of Story. Using his power, Loki revives the dying timelines, grabs the expanding branches under control, and takes his throne at the center of the multiverse.
He then forms the World Tree - Yggdrasil - to hold the timelines together, and continues to wrangle with the expanding timelines for the rest of time. This way, the God of Mischief is unable to leave the Sacred Timeline, and will stay alone for an eternity to come. But in turn, he manages to save his friends, and allows people from every other timeline to live with their own free will.

The series ends with Mobius quitting the TVA and returning to his own timeline. Casey and OB stay behind to help revive Miss Minutes. Renslayer wakes up from the void, only to be chased by Alioth all over again.
The scene returns to Loki in the Sacred Timeline, overlooking his friends and all of the Multiverse. A slight smile is seen on his face, as he knows he has saved everything and achieved his own “glorious purpose”.

#2. Loki Season 2’s Ending Is A Perfect Conclusion To Loki’s Character Arc

Back when the God of Mischief was making his MCU debut in Thor (2011), Loki was still a young and reckless god, who’d do anything in his power to prove himself to Odin, even if it meant to harm others. This selfish version of him gradually changes over time, in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and now, in his own series.

Loki’s greatest fear has always been loneliness, as he told his friends that he hates being alone. However, in order to save his friends in the end, Loki has gathered the courage to embrace the loneliness for an eternity. For someone who fears being alone so much, this selfless move from the God of Stories hits even harder, and shows how much of a sacrifice he has made.
“From selfish to selfless,” this line alone may have perfectly summed up Loki’s whole character arc in the MCU.

As Loki has practically sealed his fate with the timeline for the rest of the day, it’s safe to say that his story has finally reached its conclusion. By sacrificing his own freedom for his friends’, Loki has wrapped up his own story in a tragic yet heroic manner. Bringing him back would undo his ultimate sacrifice for his friends, thus undoing his whole character development arc so far in the MCU, and we don’t want that.
Now, with all the timely powers at hand (including stopping time as he likes), Loki has become too powerful of a character, the one who overlooks the entire Multiverse. Bringing him to any battle now would be a game-breaker, since he can easily dispatch even the strongest enemies with his current power level.

That being said, there are still some ways to bring back Loki to an Avengers movie: either another variant of him will join the battle, or Young Loki - who was introduced in Loki Season 1 - will join the Young Avengers. The studio so far hasn’t confirmed whether the former God of Mischief will return or not.
What do you think of Loki Season 2’s ending? Will the God of Mischief return in future MCU titles? Let us know what you think in the comments.
