Morgan was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He attended Coatesville Area High School in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, where he played for the Red Raiders football team. As a senior, he was named league Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-State after recording 47 tackles and 7 sacks at the defensive end position. He also rushed for 523 yards and 8 touchdowns as a running back.

Morgan attended the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2007 to 2009, playing for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets of the Atlantic Coast Conference. As a junior in 2009, Morgan was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-American honors1. He was part of the formation of the Black Eagles, a New York City reggae band in the 1970s, before launching a prosperous solo career in the 1980s onwards.

Morgan’s peak period was when he signed in 1984 with RCA Records, marking him as the first Jamaican recording artist to be signed to a major record label. His most successful release was “I’ll Do Anything For You”, which featured musical backing from the Black Eagles and peaked at number nine on the American soul chart.
