The current Season 2 of Loki is one of the few saving graces in this year from Marvel Studios, apart from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Picking up the events from the prequel, the series about the Asgardian anti-hero continues to capture the audience’s hearts with the characters’ dynamics and gripping story.
In the much-anticipated second season, Loki, Mobius, and their new friend Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan), must set out to fix the Temporal Loom and restore order to the Multiverse, which has been expanding non-stop ever since He Who Remains’s death.
With only 1 more episode to go, Loki Season 2 is expected to still have more twists and turns towards the end. Especially, Episode 4’s cliffhanger ending and Episode 5’s shocking reveal may have hinted to us at a brand-new villain to the MCU, and this one could be even stronger than the fearsome Kang The Conqueror or his variant, Victor Timely.
#1. Who Is The New MCU Villain?
As the Temporal Loom, the heart of the TVA, explodes into bits as it’s overloaded with expanding branches, Episode 5 sees Loki time-slipping through the timeline to meet the original variants of his allies: Mobius, Ouroboros, and Eugene Cordero. For this episode, Redditor BigCheese57 pointed out an interesting theory.
According to the Redditor, Loki Season 2 may have subtly teased a powerful new villain to the MCU: The Beyonder. And the true identity of this being is none other than Ouroboros, the new sensation of the show. This theory is widely supported in the thread.
#2. Who Is The Beyonder?
The Beyonder is widely considered one of the most powerful beings in Marvel Comics. In the original 1984 Secret Wars storyline by Jim Shooter, The Beyonder selects several iconic Marvel superheroes and villains, and puts them in Battleworld to fight each other.
In the 2015 Secret Wars storyline, the Beyonder is a cosmic entity who comes from a higher-dimensional race called Beyonders. This race’s power is later stolen by Doctor Doom, who uses it to create his own Battleworld tournament. The Beyonder possesses superior cosmic abilities and can even warp realities at his will, making him a much stronger adversary that even far surpasses Kang the Conqueror.
#3. Why Do People Think Ouroboros Is The Beyonder?
Making his MCU debut in Loki Season 2 Episode 1, Ouroboros, or OB, is vastly different from his fellow TVA workers. For example, his memories weren’t occasionally wiped by He Who Remains and stayed intact. He’s also revealed to have built most equipment in the TVA, and possesses incredible knowledge of the timeline and everything in the TVA.
In Episode 5, as Loki is time-slipping to the past, he discovers OB’s original variant, A. D. Doug, a sci-fi author and physicist. As soon as Doug meets Loki, he immediately realizes him as a character from one of his books.
He’s also capable of building a super complex TemPad in just 19 months, and deciphering science way after his time. Alongside his vast knowledge of the TVA, this variant proves that Ouroboros is a more incredible character than we all think.
Of course, these pieces of evidence above aren’t enough to prove OB to be the Beyonders, but there are very few characters who simply know everything about the TVA and its events like him. Besides, having Ke Huy Quan’s character as the Beyonder will set up perfectly the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, which is coming out around 2027.
#4. Ke Huy Quan Could Have A Much More Prominent Role In The MCU As A Whole
Ke Huy Quan’s performance as OB is also very well-received by Marvel fans, so it would be a shame to see him appearing as a one-off character in Loki Season 2. Having won an Academy Award for his role as Waymond in Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ke Huy Quan’s existence in the MCU is important to help propel the saga forward after a rather disappointing Phase 5.
