According to reports, members of the Iranian national football squad currently taking part in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup have been the target of threats made by the Iranian government. Before their game against the United States of America at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the authorities of the players' home nation allegedly threatened to torture and imprison the families of the football players participating in the tournament. It has been stated that the government will take measures if the players do not adhere to the pre-match rules. According to the allegation, Iranian intelligence agents are keeping a close eye on the players in Qatar.
On November 21, Iran players refused to sing their country's national anthem before the start of their match against England. As a result, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG) called a conference with all 26 players to discuss the matter.
