Iron Man Returns To MCU: Should Robert Downey Jr. Reprise His Iconic Role? 

Needlessly to say, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is the soul of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Everything is all set back from the first Iron Man movie that marked the birth of this blockbuster franchise. Even though the character sacrificed himself to save the universe in Avengers: Endgame, is there any possibility that Iron Man returns to MCU?

#1. Is Iron Man Done In The MCU?

As mentioned above, Tony Stark saved the whole universe by taking the Infinity stones from Thanos and snapping his fingers to wipe out his army. Unfortunately, it cost his life. The movie ended with the emotional funeral of Tony. 
However, his legacy remains in the following Movies. He is mentioned as an inspiration, an icon for other superheroes as well as kids and grown-ups around the world. His death encouraged Peter Parker (Spider-Man) to become a greater hero. In the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a new character, Ironheart, will also be presented as a successor of Tony and his legacy. 
Even though he’s no longer physically existing, his position will never be replaced. 

#2. Will Iron Man Return In Marvel Movies?

After Endgame, there have been many theories around how Marvel Studios can bring back the symbolic character to the timeline. It’s nothing new in the MCU when they bring a supposedly-dead character back in the story of the Multiverse. Loki, Vision, Kang the Conqueror, Groot are some obvious examples. As long as they mean to do it, it’s not a big deal. 
There are several possibilities to bring Tony back. He might travel from the past in the main timeline of Earth-616 like how the Avengers went back time to steal the Infinity stones. Or they will bring another variant of him from the Multiverse. Tony might also return as an AI like his assistants J.A.R.V.I.S. and F.R.I.D.A.Y. In fact, Tony Stark A.I actually appears in Marvel Comics. Or more ironically, he might rise from death (literally) as a… zombie. 
Even though the idea sounds really great to the loyal fans of Iron Man, it might meet with several criticisms. There are already many criticisms stating that it would be a terrible idea because Tony Stark already had a completely perfect journey within the MCU. Seemingly, Iron Man should best stay as a beautiful memory or return as a cameo and no more. 

#3. Is There Any Possibility For Robert Downey JR Returning As Iron Man?

However, as Downey officially left Marvel, it’s hard to tell that he might reprise the role. The fact that many superhero actors find it hard to carry on their career after moving on from a huge franchise. At the end of the day, he is still one of the original Avengers and basically made the MCU. It would be great news once we know that he’s back to the superhero role.
