10 Famous Movie Characters That Seem Like Great Role Models but Aren’t

In every movie, there are protagonists or popular good side characters that are seen as great role models. However, it’s not always true. Some of the most beloved characters can also be highly flawed so much so that they may even cross the line into becoming a bad influence.
It is a fact that being a bad effect doesn’t mean the character is inherently bad. In the worst cases, these characters can actually put forth terrible lessons ranging from work ethic to the treatment of others. Portraying a character with negative actions is a way that many filmmakers and directors use to emphasize the importance of doing the right thing and the consequence of doing the wrong one.

#1 Belle, Beauty and the Beast

We can see that while others work, Belle just reads books. She even teases her inventor father. The princess depends on men for everything and doesn’t care much about others. She wasn’t ready to sacrifice her well-being. She moved to the Beast’s castle only because she had no choice.

#2 Jane, Jane Eyre

Everyone sympathized with Jane, a pity girl who was ready to leave the man she loved the most because of her pride. However, when she suddenly became wealthy, she forgot about her principles. Although the story had a happy ending, her selfishness ruined her life and the life of others.

#3 Susan, Desperate Housewives

Susan is considered the most selfish character in the series. She isn’t naïve and innocent as we thought. She always pursues her selfish goals, even including stealing her friend’s husband. Furthermore, she causes a lot of problems for her husband, friends, and daughter. Viewers wonder why anyone can be friends with her.

At first glance, Allison Cameron is a hard-working and talented doctor, a charming girlfriend, and a good friend. But, when her husband had some problems, she left him. She leaves the team and returns, forcing House to look for a replacement. She also likes sticking her nose into others’ business.

It is undeniable that Gandalf is a wise and powerful wizard. But we can notice that the character sent halflings on a dangerous journey twice and the hobbits who travel with him always get in trouble. The wizard didn’t share his own information with his fellow travelers. He uses his power whenever he likes but sometimes he refuses to use it for help.

#6 Poirot, Agatha Christie’s Poirot

Although Poirot is smart, attentive, and well-mannered, he is quite annoying. The character also manipulates people, teases Hastings, and is a condescending person.

#7 Winnie-the-Pooh, Winnie-the-Pooh

Winnie-the-Pooh is definitely not a great role model. He always behaves stupidly, just eats, and causes problems for his friends. He is willing to do anything for a pot of honey.

#8 Elizabeth, Pirates of the Caribbean

Elizabeth isn’t as nice as we see. The character is actually a spoiled girl, who grew up in luxury. She tried to control everyone, including Jack and Will, and also ignored others’ advice.
Whenever someone disobeyed her, she would become tough and get what she wanted no matter what. The character almost ruined Captain Norrington’s life and caused a lot of Will’s troubles. Moreover, she left her father behind for the sake of adventuring.

#9 Anne, Anne with an E

Anne first appears as an annoyed child when never stops asking questions to others. She doesn’t think about other people’s feelings. Even in the last episodes of the series, she is still childish.

The main character appears as a noble thief who commits robberies and covers his tracks. He spends a lot of money on the equipment for his criminal activities and hesitatingly pays child support on a regular basis. The only thing that viewers agree with him is that he loves his son unconditionally.
