Why Is Cecily Leaving SNL? What Insiders Said?

Why is Cecily Leaving SNL? Cecily Strong's final SNL appearance will be the season finale in 2022. The comedian's departure was announced just hours before her final performance on the Austin Butler–hosted episode featuring musical guest Lizzo. The show ran for 11 seasons.
"We're saying goodbye to a legend tonight. After missing the first few episodes of season 48 while performing her one-woman show, a revival of The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, in Los Angeles, EW has learned that Strong always intended to return for only the first half of the season.
In 2012, at the beginning of season 38, Strong became a regular cast member of the long-running NBC sketch comedy staple. Soon after, she joined the ranks of the show's most enduring regulars, eventually matching Kate McKinnon's 11 years on the job as the longest-tenured female cast member. Following her brief time as co-host of Weekend Update alongside Seth Meyers and, subsequently, Colin Jost before Che's hire, Strong has established herself as a reliable member of the sketch comedy troupe, frequently showcasing her musical talents in recent seasons.
The Girl at the Party, Pirro, Cathy Anne, the very opinionated neighbor of Che, Heather, the One-Dimensional Female Character From a Male-Driven Comedy, and her most powerful appearance as Goober the Clown, discussing her real-life experience of having an abortion in her early 20s, are just a few of the memorable characters she brought to the Update desk regularly.

Other recurring characters that Strong will be remembered for include Kyra, co-host of The Girlfriends Talk Show (with Bryant). Gemma, an aspiring British singer, often on a date. Lonnie, one of two not-so-bright children in the Science Room sketches (with Mikey Day), Gracelynn Chisholm, co-host of the morning show Right Side of the Bed with husband Cory (Taran Killam), and a supporting player in the Science Room sketches.
She has made impressions on hundreds of politicians and celebrities, including Melania Trump, Dianne Feinstein, Majorie Taylor Greene, Tulsi Gabbard, Alanis Morissette, Sofia Vergara, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Her departure follows former regulars Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Pete Davidson, all of whom departed at the close of Season 17.
As a result of several years spent away from the program on other projects or mourning the loss of a close family member to cancer while in quarantine, Strong's departure seemed imminent. I'll be pleased if I go back, and I'll be thrilled if that was my last show," she told Entertainment Tonight shortly after the season 46 finale in 2021. Post-SNL, Strong will be seen as the lead in the second season of AppleTV+'s Schmigadoon!, which was created by SNL's Lorne Michaels.
