Who Was At John Mulaney Intervention? Full Cameo And Cast List
It was a star-studded intervention,” John Mulaney says in the midst of Baby J, his latest comedy special, which debuted on Netflix April 25. Here is all the information about who will be in John Mulaney Intervention upcoming show.
By the time he showed up for "dinner," John was two hours late. He quickly realized the meal was a ruse. "There was no dinner. It was an intervention. For me," he explained in the special. After being denied a request to head to the bathroom, John reluctantly settled into the intervention. There were 12 people total, six of whom were in-person and six via Zoom. "It was a star-studded intervention. It was a good group ... This is really flattering in its own way," he said.
He mentioned Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, and Nick Kroll, all of whom had "promised each other they wouldn't do bits." They kept that promise. That made things worse for Mulaney who said, "The funniest people in the world are staring at me, refusing to do jokes. It was maddening."
At the end of the special, Mulaney thanks 13 people in the credits: Fred, Berk, Mike, Bill, Erica, Nick, Natasha, Joe, Cara, David, Seth, Kevin, Marika. He writes “you saved my life” beneath their first names. “Marika” is likely Marika Sawyer, a producer and writer who worked with Mulaney both at SNL and on his 2019 Netflix special, John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch. “Mike” is likely Mike Birbiglia, a comedian who went to college with Mulaney and Kroll, and calls Mulaney one of his oldest friends. David Miner and Cara Masline—also executive producers on that latter special—may be included too, as may Mike Berkowitz, Mulaney’s comedy agent.
In his first post-rehab interview back in September 2021 on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Mulaney thanked the host for staging his intervention. “Sitting here tonight, I’m so grateful to you and to everyone there for saving my life. That night, I was not grateful,” he said. “You guys saved me from drugs, and Olivia [Munn] and this baby have helped save me from myself in this early journey out of recovery. I don’t have a joke for that. I’m really grateful to you, buddy.”

Pete Davidson was not at the intervention because he was traveling but when he heard what happened, Pete began calling his friend. Apparently Pete is constantly changing his cell phone number so every time he got a new number, John would save it under a different famous person's name. On that night, he was saved as Al Pacino. The nurse shook John awake because who wouldn't want to know that Oscar winner Al Pacino was on the line?
In a September 2021 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, John said he was in rehab for two months. He got out in February 2021 and stayed in a sober living facility for another month and a half. Thanks to his friends, John remains sober. In the special, he acknowledges his gratitude. "They intervened. They confronted me. They totally saved my life."
His suspicions were further confirmed upon spotting Seth Meyers, whom he worked for as a Late Night staff writer in the later months of his relapse. Over the course of the special, Mulaney name-checks a few of the other famous faces in attendance—six in-person in New York, and six over Zoom in Los Angeles. “You may be thinking, Hey, if that was me, I would’ve been like, ‘If you’re so worried about me, how come you didn’t fly in?’” Mulaney quips. “Don’t worry, I said that several times.”
