Let's meet Emily Swallow, who plays the Blacksmith in The Mandalorian! Din is publically shamed by The Blacksmith when he acknowledges in The Book of Boba Fett that he removed his helmet. On December 18, 1979, Jo and Gary Swallow welcomed their daughter Emily into the world at the nation's capital. Between Jacksonville, Florida, and Sterling, Virginia, she split her formative years. Swallow attended "Stanton College Preparatory School" in Florida in pursuit of a career in diplomacy. She was also actively involved in the theater scene, appearing in both amateur and professional productions.
Swallow went on to get his bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern studies in 2001 at a school he did not specify. After trying out for NYU's graduate acting program, however, she changed her mind about her intended field of study. She uprooted her life to pursue a master's degree in acting at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Emily appreciates that the Blacksmith is a woman in a position of authority without the need to highlight the fact that she is a woman. She gushed, "I love that it's not exceptional within the Mandalorian people that she's a woman," suggesting that her gender isn't a major story point. The fact that she is in a position of authority is only coincidence. It's heartening to hear from her devotees that she acts as an inspiration to them.

Emily, like her onscreen role, isn't a Blacksmith expert, so she made sure her scenes as the Armorer aiding Beskar were realistic by consulting a female blacksmith in Los Angeles. She also praised the hard work of the team members who brought Grogu to life, saying that her answers in those times with Grogu were real.
"He's just so magnificently crafted that you fall in love with him," she said, explaining why they had met and fallen in love. It's only human to behave rashly when he's there in front of you during a heated dispute. All of those are honest reactions.
In addition to appreciating the new episodes, Emily hopes that viewers of The Mandalorian "really appreciate that this season delves into a lot of the questions I know fans have had for a long time about Mandalorian culture." In addition to just being entertaining, Emily hopes that this season will educate viewers to "recognize the value in listening to people that we don't necessarily agree with and [the value in finding] what unites us more than what divides us."
