Netflix's You has taken a leap across the pond and has been filmed entirely in the UK. Over the past year of filming, leading actor Penn Badgley (who plays Joe Goldberg) has been spotted around London filming scenes for the new season, but whereabouts in London was this season of You filmed? In April 2022, excited students flocked to TikTok to share videos of Badgley filming scenes at London's Royal Holloway university. The university, which is part of the University of London group, is technically just outside the capital of Egham.
So, although the series implies that the university Joe teaches at is in London, it's more specifically in Surrey, an hour or so away from central London. Even so, shots of Joe walking out of university have been cut to imply that he can walk seamlessly out of work and through Spitalfields market in east London. He says: "Campus is across town from where I stay, but in a city like London, I don't mind the walk."
And on this walk, we see him go through Shoreditch and appear in South Kensington, where he lives.

Talking about the decision to change location in this new series, Badgley explained that it was down to a very practical reason. "To be real, it's cheaper," the actor revealed.
Badgley also spoke about the opportunity to bring his wife, Domino Kirke, and his family with him, which was a homecoming for Kirke who is from England. "It's really nice for her to be back because she left when she was 12 – that formative time in life," he shared. "We walked on her childhood street that she hadn't been in ... like 25 years or something and got ice cream from a little truck." So, here are some specific locations that the Netflix was filmed.

Royal Holloway

Joe's alter ego, Jonathan Moore, is a newcomer to London who works as an English professor at a London university that resembles Surrey's Royal Holloway. What's more, guess what? It's the Royal Holloway! The show makes extensive use of the Egham campus and its historic colonnades, which works much better visually than geographically: in episode one, Joe walks from university to his South Kensington flat via the West End and Spitalfields. A nearly 30-mile journey.

Lincoln’s Inn Library

At his college library, Joe has conspiratorial chats with English undergrad Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman), a genre nut who provides her handsome professor with a few steers on what might be afoot. The room is actually Lincoln’s Inn Library in Holborn and sadly, you’ll need a law degree to visit. It’s only open to barristers and members of the Inn itself.

South Kensington

Despite that detour via the City and large swathes of east London, Goldberg is largely West London-based in season four. His rented house is located in South Kensington’s leafy Kynance Mews. ‘My first thought when I saw my neighbourhood was: “I’m in a Hugh Grant movie,”’ he wryly notes in the voiceover. Wait until you pay the rent.

Hidden behind a baseball hat that screams of someone trying to go incognito and a tabloid that looks a lot like it might be called The Daily Day, Joe is back at the scene of a heartbreak he’s still coming to terms with in season four. We’ll give nothing away but the fact that the station is London’s Eurostar terminal is definitely a clue.

Knebworth House

Well-connected aristocrat Lady Phoebe (Tilly Keeper) invites Joe to a party at her country pile, Hampsie, in episode four. The stately home is actually Hertfordshire’s Knebworth House, famous for its fifteenth-century grandeur and that Oasis gig. It has a lot of on-screen experience, having doubled for Balmoral in ‘The King's Speech’, Bruce Wayne’s manor in Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’ and hosted another weekend of shotguns and snobbery in 1984 ‘The Shooting Party’.
