The Rookie is back on ABC with an another surprise. Thanks to the preview of The Rookie Season 5 Episode 20, we find out that Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) and Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) will soon be greeted by an unexpected guest, who turns out to be no other than Isabel (Mircea Monroe), Bradford's ex-wife.
We all know that Tim and Lucy started dating not long ago. Their love is strong and passionate, but it is also still quite new. Love isn't all sunshine and rainbows - it's obvious that the couple will have to overcome a lot of challenges in the future. And Isabel may or may not be a part of these problems. Isabel used to work as a detective in the Gangs & Narcotics Division. Unfortunately, she became addicted while on the job. Isabel's drug addiction was one of the main reasons that caused her and Tim to split up.
Not long after Isabel became addicted, she started to stay out late and make excuses. At first, Tim thought that she was cheating on him. When he belatedly realized that his wife is addicted, everything had gone too far already.
Both Tim and Isabel struggled a lot. Tim couldn't even see his wife for nearly a year. He only got to meet Isabel when she needed money from him, or when she was taken to an emergency room because of drug overdose. Isabel's health was deteriorating, she looked extremely sick and desperated. Tim tried to help her many times, but it was no use.
In the end, the police did manage to catch Vance and his crew, but they also found the unconscious body of Isabel in a dumpster after she was brutally assaulted by Vance's henchmen. She had severe injuries all over her body and even got shot in the head. Tim tried his best to stay by Isabel's side during her time in the hospital.
After a while, we see Tim took a day off on Valentine's Day to visit Isabel in Rehab. They talked about their relationship for a long time before Tim decided that it would be better for him and Isabel to break up. Isabel understood his decision. She thanked him for never giving up on her.
When Isabel makes a surprise visit to Lucy's apartment, luckily, she looks much happier and healthier now. We can believe that Isabel has completely gotten rid of her addiction. Hopefully we would get a chance to learn more about Isabel, especially her rocky journey to recovery, in the future.
