Selena Gomez Reveals Taylor Swift As Her Sole Music Industry Friend

Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift first met in 2008 when they were in a romantic relationship with Jonas brothers. At that time, they were only 16 and 19 years old. Selena recalled years later, “We actually dated the Jonas brothers together! It was hysterical.”

Although love stories didn’t last long, our two teenagers got along well, quickly becoming each other’s companies. When it came to the relationship with Swift, Gomez shared, “It was the best thing we got out of those relationships.”

Just a year after their initial meeting, the two best friends became inseparable. In a 2009 interview, Gomez shared that she frequently sought advice from Swift, especially regarding matters of love. 

The actress explained, “Every single problem I ever have is healable by Taylor Swift!” Because Swift is 2 years older than Gomez, she often finds her friend's advice invaluable. “Because of her, I haven't lost faith. We literally talk every day,” added the singer and actress.

Swift and Gomez shared numerous public moments throughout the decade following their first meeting. Whether sitting side by side at screenings or award shows, their friendship was evident with bright smiles. Swift's 2011 tour even saw a surprise appearance from Gomez. Over the years, Gomez frequently joined Swift as a guest performer during her subsequent tours.

The inseparable duo marked Gomez's thirtieth birthday with an intimate dinner, highlighting their commitment to making each other's special days truly memorable. Their friendship has been beautifully documented with adorable photos and heartfelt wishes, such as Swift's 2016 birthday message: “I can’t imagine my life without you, Selena. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”
