She reveals that Darryl was studying the harmful effects of pesticides on other life forms. She also shares that Darryl has become increasingly paranoid lately. He believes someone from a pesticide company was following him from lecture to lecture and trying to kill him.
Darryl recently published a paper indicating that certain pesticides could carry harmful effects on adults. This caused a lot of controversy. A pesticide company suffered huge financial loss due to this. The NCIS team question a company representative, but she is able to provide an alibi.
After further investigation, the team discovers that some Chinese spies were behind the attack. Darryl's research assistant, Arjun, sold them the information. But Darryl refused to sell them the project as he believed his new research could save lives. The Chinese then attacked Darryl and stole his hard drive. They are planning to transport Claire to a secret airport. Luckily, the NCIS team intervene just in time and save her life. All the spies are arrested.
