Fast forward to present day, the NCIS team is investigating a murder after Brittany's car is pulled out of a pond at the same location where she was last seen running.

She reveals that her daughter had been troubled by an incident related to her roommate Jen before disappearing. Her concerns involve a person named Aaron. This makes Aaron a possible suspect.
Further investigation reveals that Brittany had issues with Aaron. It turns out that Aaron once sexually assaulted Jen, which caused her to leave the Navy. Brittany went missing on the day she reported the incident.
Hanna and Callan then interrogate Aaron's old roommate, but he denies any involvement. The team suspects that Aaron's father might be their number one suspect.
