The Bearded Reedling, commonly known as the Bearded Tit, is a small, sexually dimorphic reed-bed-passerine bird. They are approximately 16.5cm in size and could easily fit into your palm. These birds are determined to be the only species belonging to the Panuridae family. The palm-sized birds are quite sensitive to changes in temperature and prefer temperate climates. Therefore, this species can only be found in Europe and in East Asia since they don’t often join in migration.
They have round bodies painted with a stunning brownish-orange. Grayish-blue and ash-gray are two possible colors of their head.

IIn order to distinguish the gender of this bird, scientists suggest watchers observe its colors. It is exposed that even when the colors are nearly the same, the females are generally paler than the male birds. A bluish-gray head is also an important feature to spot male birds. Besides, the female birds don’t have any mustache markings nor black streaks under their tails and their beaks are darker than males.

The small animals have such a unique appearance that they would be easily recognized in nature. They love to chill in reedbeds, swamps, wetlands, lakes, and other freshwater habitats. These adorable birds also prefer to spend their days hanging with other Reedlings and looking for their favorite insects to munch on.

One of the most interesting characteristics of this bird is its ability to out-split like an expert gymnast. Believe it or not, this is the most relaxed position with a Bearded Reedling.

Even though the flying speed of the species is not measured, yet, they are predicted to be a worse flier. Their habit of twisting the body has a bad influence on their speed. However, this habit provides them the ability to better balance themselves in the flimsiest of reed blades in the wetlands.

Unluckily, the lifespan of this animal is quite short. It only lasts from 3 to 6 years in the wild. Moreover, their habitats are gradually being decreased due to human activities. Nevertheless, the species is not listed as an endangered animal since it is estimated that there are around 6 million Bearded Reedlings around the globe.
Even so, it’s necessary for humans to be aware of how importance animals are to our life. They should start working on protecting both endangered and not endangered species. Activities having a bad influence on the environment and animals’ habits should be reduced. By doing this, we can forever preserve the beauty of nature.
