Magnum PI Season 5 Episode 9 Cast, Guest Stars & Recap: "Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind"

Juliette's fear of losing Magnum leads her to push him away. Her recurring nightmares of him dying violently cause her to distance herself from him. This makes Magnum confused and frustrated. Despite his attempts to address the issue, she dismisses him and tells him to focus on Detective Childs.
Later, while Juliette is investigating a new case, her client's devastating pain of losing someone she loves reminds Juliette of Magnum. She apologizes to Magnum for her previous behavior and seeks his help in investigating Otis's death.

The Investigation Of The Episode

Magnum decides to help Juliette with her client, Josie. They investigate the death of Josie's boyfriend, Otis. Josie is struggling to accept her boyfriend's apparent suicide. Despite the ruling by the HPD, Josie can't shake the feeling that there's more to the story. She suspects that something may have happened at work to cause him to take his own life.
To get more information, Juliette goes undercover at the hospital by pretending to be a new therapist. During her time there, she meets a patient named Becca, who tells her that she saw Otis in the office where prescriptions were held, even though that wasn't part of his job.

Juliette later discovers that one of the patients, Steven, was wrongly committed after his partner received a huge payout to sell their surfboard company. His former partner paid a nurse to keep him drugged and make him appear crazy. It seems like Otis was having doubts about Steven's condition, which eventually led to his death.
The same nurse soon learns of Juliette's investigation. She drugged Juliette with a plan of killing her. When Juliette was still unconscious, she gets a clearer glimpse of her recent nightmares. Juliette realizes that the blood on her hands in the nightmares belongs to Richard, not Magnum. Juliette blames herself for Richard's death and fears that the same fate will happen to Magnum.
Luckily, Magnum comes just in time to save Juliette. The nurse who killed Otis is arrested, along with her business partner. Steven is off medication and back with his family. Magnum helps Juliette through her survivor guilt.

What Happened To Gordon And His Son?

Meanwhile, Gordon and his son, Dennis, go to the mainland to visit some colleges. They stop to eat at a bar. However, some locals start to bother them as they deem Gordon and his son as "suspicious".
The racists were soon arrested, but it didn't make Dennis feel any better. Dennis realizes that he might have to deal with constant racism if he decides to leave his home. He has the intention of just attending a college in Hawaii. Gordon reassures his son. Gordons says that things might be hard, but it shouldn't prevent Dennis from pursuing his dream. Dennis seems to agree with his dad.

Does Detective Childs Get Killed?

Detective Childs contacts Magnum as he found out about their stunt with Lewis Peele. He demands them to give him information on all the details. Despite Magnum's warning that it could be dangerous, Detective Childs refuses to back down, claiming he has never run from a fight.
Magnum then shares information about Oliver Cane. According to Magnum, Oliver is working with former military members to track down Magnum and his allies. Cane was recently taken to a black site so he is currently not a threat, but Magnum is determined to uncover more about him.
However, just like Magnum said, this case is too dangerous for Detective Childs. While investigating a potential hideout of the assassins, Childs unfortunately gets caught by a tripwire. In the end, Detective Childs is killed in a house bomb and TC has been shot, with their attackers now aware of their identity.
