KJ Smith was born on May 6, 1985, in Tallahassee, Florida. Her full name is Khaneshia Smith. Back when she was in high school, KJ Smith was a cheerleader and softball player. She pursued Business Marketing at Florida State University, later enhancing her education with journalism studies at Florida A&M University. Initially embarking on a corporate career, Smith's path led her back to academia before she ventured into acting.


Smith is married to actor Skyh Alvester Black, her co-star in "Sistas." They currently reside in Los Angeles, CA.


Smith's acting career began in 2009 with roles in short films and television comedies like "Conan" and "Real Husbands of Hollywood." She guest-starred in several sitcoms, including "Black-ish" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Smith also had recurring roles in "Dynasty," "Queen Sugar," and "Family Time." Her major breakthrough came with "The Family Business" and "Sistas."
