She reportedly provided the producers of the show with prior notice of her intention to leave Grey Sloan and explore other opportunities, which eventually led to Maggie's story arc being included in Season 19 of the programme. Maggie has been a recurring cast member on the show since since the tenth season. In a statement that she released, McCreary acknowledged her departure from Grey's Anatomy as well as her time spent working on the programme.
