The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes’ Release Date, Cast & More

The much-anticipated prequel of the critically acclaimed franchise will hit the box office on November 17, 2023.

Since The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes will take place 64 years before the events in the main franchise, fan-favorite characters such as Katniss Everdeen, Peeta, and Gale won’t reprise their roles in the movie. 

Instead, the prequel will feature several familiar characters in their younger days like Coryo Snow and Tigris Snow. Tom Blyth and Hunter Schafer will replace Donald Sutherland and Eugenie Bondurant respectively to play young Coryo and Tigris.

The movie will also introduce to us some new faces to the game, including Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler). Lucy is the female tribute from District 12, who joins the 10th Hunger Games. She later forms a bond with young Coryo, and the two attempt to claim the Capitol together.

An official trailer for the prequel was released on April 28, 2023. The trailer introduces us to the new cast with Tom Blyth, Hunter Schafer, and Rachel Zegler, while also giving us a brief synopsis of the 10th Hunger Games.

Lionsgate Pictures also released a second trailer just days ago, giving us a deeper insight into the movie.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will adapt the events in the titular prequel novel written by Suzanne Collins. So far, there isn’t much information about the movie’s plot. However, according to the trailers and the official synopsis, the movie will revolve around Coryo Snow, who’s now the protagonist.

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will focus on Snow’s journey before he becomes the Panem tyrant 64 years later. In the prequel, young Coryo is the last hope of the “once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace”. he’s later tasked to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, a female tribute from District 12.

Later on, Snow finds out about Lucy’s ability to captivate the Panem citizens’ hearts. Knowing this would be the perfect chance to restore his family’s status to its former state, Snow allies with Lucy to “turn the odds in their favor”.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is coming to theaters this November. Even though Katniss won’t be back this time, the movie still brings back some familiar figures from the original franchise. We’ll also get to see how Rachel Zegler will perform as Lucy, the heroine of the show.
