Another Jenna Ortega Attitude Controversy - This Time, She Is Criticized As 'Entitled' And 'Toxic'

Another Jenna Ortega attitude controversy? This time, Jenna is called "entitled" and "toxic" after she publicly criticized the writing of the smash hit Wednesday.
Not only did she received a lot of criticism, this incident also caused the Hollywood writer and producer Steven DeKnight to label her as "entitled", "beyond toxic", "unprofessional". So, what exactly happened?

#1. Jenna Ortega Attitude Controversy Over Wednesday's Script

Jenna Ortega is definitely brutally honest when it comes to Wednesday. On Dax Shepard's podcast, the 20-year-old star shared that nothing about the character Wednesday actually "made sense to her". She thinks that the story doesn't seem interesting, and the love triangle plot isn't logical at all.
"I don't think I've ever had to put my foot down more on a set in a way that I had to on Wednesday.", Jenna complained.
According to Jenna, the script was so bad that she had to intervene to correct the story's writing. This made her become "almost unprofessional". In the set, she would suddenly change the lines during filming without informing anyone, which did make the whole crew surprised.

Jenna stated that the reasons behind her action was because of her concern. She thought the original story would be "boring" to audiences. Moreover, she wanted to make Wednesday a more likeable character.

"You can't lead a story and have no emotional arc because then it's boring and nobody likes you. When you are little and say very morbid, offensive stuff, it's funny and endearing. But then you become a teenager and it's nasty and you know it. There's less of an excuse.", Jenna said.

Jenna Ortega's talk about Wednesday's script quickly became a controversy. A lot of people think that even if she hated the script, she should have discussed it thoroughly and carefully with the writers instead of "trashing them" after the show has ended.
On his social media account, Steven DeKnight called Ortega's comments about the script "inappropriate". He felt like her unacceptable attitude was probably due to her young age.
"She should also ask herself how she would feel if the showrunners gave an interview and talked about how difficult she was and refused to perform the material. This kind of statement is beyond entitled and toxic. I love her work, but life's too short to deal with people like this in the business.", he stated.

Writer Michael Sheridan also agreed. "Yeesh... now I get why writers are getting a bit upset about her comments. The way this is framed... it appears she claims she knew better than the writers, better than Tim Burton, & she's why the show was a hit. I don't know if she meant that, but that's how this reads.", the writer said.
Journalist Mark Harris simply shared: "I'd just hope that contribution would come some way other than by rewriting them on set, explaining it only after the fact, and then publicly trashing the writers. 'I mean, 'I want an arc'/'You don't have an arc' seems kind of big to try to solve on set, in the moment!".

Well, we can't come to a conclusion yet, but there is one thing that is certain: Jenna Ortega has publicly said that she "doesn't like Wednesday that much".
In a recent interview with The Times UK, Jenna said that Wednesday is not something that she desperately chased after.

“I got the email, passed on it. I had done so much TV in my life. All I’ve ever wanted to do is film…You have to prove yourself. It’s only in the last three or four years that I’ve been able to start going up for film. I was scared that by signing on to another television show it could prevent me from doing other jobs I really wanted and cared about.”, the actress explained. The only reason she accepted the role of Wednesday is because Tim Burton, the director and executive producer of Wednesday, is "such a legend", and they get along very well.
