“I Almost Died”: What Happened To Zac Efron? What Is Trolling Of His Appearance?

In April 2023, Zac Efron’s appearance on Earth Day! The Musical stirred up controversy. Despite his brief involvement, he stole the spotlight, and fans started speculating wildly about the changes in his looks, with plastic surgery emerging as the leading theory.

It wasn't until September 2022 that Zac Efron personally addressed the speculations that had been circulating for more than a year. The actor finally revealed the true story behind his altered appearance.

Efron clarified that it wasn't the result of any surgical procedures but rather an accident at home. He had slipped while running and injured his chin. During his recovery, the muscles around his jaw changed. 

Despite the challenging experience and the rumors, Efron maintained a positive outlook and took his fans' theories in stride, saying, “It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.”

He mostly stays off of the Internet and was initially unaware of the fan frenzy surrounding his appearance.  In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Zac Efron shared that he learned from his mom about the online attention and the rumors of plastic surgery, which the media dubbed "jaw-gate."

The incident that led to Efron's changed appearance and the subsequent scrutiny have had a significant impact on his public image. Once celebrated as a heartthrob and a symbol of innocence, he found himself caught in a continuous cycle of online criticism, rumors, and discussions, overshadowing his accomplishments in the entertainment industry.
