With the SAG-AFTRA strike coming to a conclusion earlier this fall, many Hollywood Movies and TV shows are back in production. And yes, that means multiple MCU projects, for example, Spider-Man 4, are included. The Spider-Man trilogy, starring Tom Holland, is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed franchises in the MCU so far, so obviously Marvel fans want more Web-Slinger action in the future.
Ever since the tragic ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, fans have been dying (just like Aunt May, ha!) to know what lies ahead for Holland’s Peter Parker, after he lost everything in the threequel. And finally, after 5 months of waiting, Holland gave us some positive updates about the fourth movie in a recent interview.
#1. What Does Tom Holland Have To Say About MCU’s Spider-Man 4?
In a recent interview with Collider, the British performer opened up about his and Marvel Studios’ progress with Spider-Man 4 so far. The much-anticipated project had been on a halt for several months due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, and has only resumed recently alongside multiple other MCU titles.
“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character. Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man,” said Holland.
“I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character,” the actor continued.
In the interview, Holland didn’t give us any specific information regarding the movie like its release date or overall storyline, but he did confirm that he has been in talks with Marvel for a fourth movie for a while. However, since he cherished the role of Spider-Man very much, he only wants to make Spider-Man 4 if the plot’s quality is ensured.
To put it simply, if both parties can’t come up with a solid plan for Peter Parker in the next movie, the project cannot come to fruition. However, Marvel fans still consider this a positive update, as at least Marvel Studios is planning to make Spider-Man 4, or maybe even another trilogy for the friendly neighbor.
#2. Tom Holland Will Return As Spider-Man Under One Condition
In an earlier interview this year during the strikes, Tom Holland also talked about how he’s willing to return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4, under one condition. The British actor claimed: "If we can't find a way to compete with the third one, he'll swing off into the sunset," which is quite similar to his above statement.
Holland will only return as Spider-Man if the fourth movie is as good as, or better than the threequel.
#3. Tom Holland’s Condition Is Hard, But Not Impossible
Many feel like Spider-Man’s storyline in the MCU has peaked with No Way Home, which sees Holland’s Peter Parker fighting alongside two other Spider-Men from the Sonyverse, against the Sinister Five in the comics. It’s hard to imagine a storyline that could surpass No Way Home in both scales and characters.
However, it will be a different story if Marvel Studios decides to adapt the events in the comics. For example, One More Day, or Superior Spider-Man are all intriguing and unique Spider-Man storylines to adapt. Spider-Man 4 could also see Peter further exploring the Multiverse, and meets more of his variants from different dimensions.
Especially, with the tease of Venom in the post-credit scene of No Way Home, we now know that the Symbiote is in the MCU storyline. An epic battle between Spider-Man and Venom is what Marvel fans want to see in the MCU, as it can also help introduce Peter’s symbiote suit to the Avengers: Secret Wars story.
What is your prediction for Spider-Man 4? Will it be able to meet Holland’s expectations? Tell us more in the comments.
