20 Quirky Comics By Artist Off The Mark That’ll Leave You All Of A Doodah
The world of humor is incredibly diverse in which we can chuckle at many things. Jokes can be ridiculous wordplay, falling objects, and utterly unexpected events. Things that shouldn’t make us laugh frequently do so. And occasionally we laugh even much harder than we’re willing to admit, which is the darker side of humor. Indulging in the entire arts of black comedy, Off The Mark, or Mark Parisi is one of those creators who produce cartoons that are dedicated to the gag. Let’s look forward to his creative process and how he rose to big fame as a cartoonist with countless die-hard comic book readers!
Mark Parisi, who was born in New England in 1961, is well-known for his massive amounts of art, particularly the “Off the Mark” cartoons, which debuted in 1987. After changing his majors so many times at Salem State University, he chose the ology of Graphic Art as his firmest choice. He soon realized that Charles Schulz, Gary Larson, and MAD magazine were his primary sources of inspiration for his comics. Paul Newman, “Weird AI” Yankovic, and the Dixie Chicks all featured one of Mark Parisi's cartoons in their respective projects.
Numerous publications, greeting cards, T-shirts, and more all carry the “Off the Back” series. Over 100 newspapers also carry it. Contrary to artworks with four panels, these comics typically have one or two-paneled strips, giving them uniqueness without the necessity for intricate illustrations. Three times, in 2008, 2011, and 2017, The National Cartoonists Society presented Mark Parisi with the “Best Newspaper Panel” prize. The artist was the recipient of another honor in 2013 for “Best Greeting Cards.”
The official Garbage Pail Kids sketch cards and the middle-grade novel “The Truth About 5th Grade,” co-written with Kim Tomsic, are other projects Mark is now working on.
