When filmmakers decide to adapt a classic book, it might be a risk. Because only when the book was a huge success and attracted a lot of people's attention, did they start producing the movie. So, it’s really hard to convince the readers who have been immersed in the book to believe in the new world in the movie, which might be a little bit different from the book. #1 Beauty and the Beast

Like every Disney movie, the changes were completely drastic, and “Beauty and the Beast” is not an exception. The original book was published by the French writer Jeanne Marie Leprince de Beaumont in 1756. Since then, there came a lot of movies and plays inspired by the book, but the one we all know and love is Disney’s animated adaptation in 1991. And many characters we see on screen are not in the original book.
Still, the only common character is Belle’s father. Gaston and some other added characters such as Le Fou, Cogsworth, Lumière Mrs. Potts, and Chip did make the movie adaptation a place on the list of movies that are better than the book.

It goes without saying that Silence of the Lambs is one of the most iconic movies that we’re re-watching today. Although the book is globally regarded as good, the movie is even beyond our expectations. Anthony Hopkins and the film crew succeeded in bringing Hannibal to life and giving him a story. The character of Hannibal Lecter is way different from the book.

#3 The Notebook

The famous movie “The Notebook”, which certainly left us all in tears when we watch its ending, is considered one of the movies that are better than the book. And its most heart-wenching scene, the one in which they both figure out that their love never perished, is totally different in the book.
Abby Olaleye once explains that: “The famous scene where it is raining, and Allie goes ‘Why didn’t you write? It wasn’t over for me,’ with a reply from Noah saying, ‘I wrote you every day for a year.’ Then he kisses her. It doesn’t exactly happen that way. It was disappointing for me because, during the ‘365 letters’ scene in the book, I wanted a kiss to happen, but I knew it wasn’t going to because it was too mundane. ”
The movie has a more tragic approach when both characters died in each other’s arms. Still, the ending of the book is romantic.

It’s no doubt that the movie The Godfather did much better than the book written by Mario Puzo. We can’t deny that the book itself is already excellent, which was the author’s best-selling book. Still, the movie, which was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, took the already-amazing characters portrayed in the book and gave them life with astounding portrayals. With a cast of James Caan, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, and a professional director like Coppola, the movie was better than the book.

#5 Forrest Gump

Just like Hannibal, the main character in Forrest Gump was brought to life more impressively in the movies, rather than in the book. We all know Forrest has a very childlike personality in the book, but, sometimes he can be really violent. Gump can even curse, which didn’t happen in the movie adaptation.
In general, the movie had the same approach, but in the end, the protagonist became more loved when showing a childlike personality, a soft way of speaking, and a certain innocence. Due to his genuine self, he made the movie better than the book.

#6 Fight Club

As we said before, it’s a common thing for books to contain way more detail than their subsequent films. But it’s not the case for the emblematic movie inspiration of Fight Club. With the brilliant cast and scriptwriters, the movie soon got ahead of the book. There’s the drama and the plot which make the movie better than the book. In addition, Brad Pitt undoubtedly make the movie much better.

Jaws is also worth mentioning. The 1975 movie adaption of Peter Benchley’s novel is even better than the book. We can see the plot tends to stretch out over a long time in the book, which might become boring for some people. So, in the movie, due to time management, every detail is sorted and became eye-catching so as not to bore the viewer.
The plot between the chief’s wife and a marine biologist tends to be too long and pointless for the general action. In the movie, it seems this is not the case, which undoubtedly made the adaptation a lot more exciting and thrilling.

#8 Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park was inspired by a novel written by Michael Crichton. In the movie, they made some changes to the characters, which is considered too many in the novel. In the novel, the crew handles the ferocious dinosaurs' escapes and tries to eradicate them and ruin the island. Still, it doesn’t come to happen in the movie. Probably this is what made people love the movie more, giving them hope that they might see the dinosaurs again, which did happen in the movies that followed.

The iconic Mean Girls was inspired by a 2002 book, in which Queen and Wannabes were created by Rosakubd Wiseman. Tina Fey, who was inspired by that book, wrote the script for what we love as Mean Girls. Certainly, it was not the contribution of Tina Fey only, with the help of the original book and other writers, she created an iconic movie in which she portrayed Ms. Norbury, the math teacher.
Mean Girls has undeniably a staple with a twist, which is different from its original book. Because of its originality and place in everyone’s hearts, it certainly deserves a place on the list of movies that are better than books.

#10 Lord of the Rings

In the Lord of the Rings book, the character is not the central point and it turns out to make the Lord of the Rings movie better than the book.
Containing one character that was overlooked in the original book involved in the plot can be a drastic change, but one that, for this particular film, satisfied fans. The character, Arwen, had more screen time and significant action in the film, which, along with other changes to production, makes the film adaptation much more interesting.
