Top 20 Celebrities Wasted On Live TV

We love to watch TV shows where celebrities show up and share with us their funny stories, or behind the scene secrets. Many famous actors or singers gain more fans following their appearances on shows. However, in some cases, stars cause a stir with their weird behavior, even tying the host and others of the show into knots.
In fact, they tend to join the show when they’re not sober. Some of the shows treat guests with alcohol for free, then stars enjoy it in spades, and take anything … too far thereafter. Worse still, some celebrities get drunk from using drugs before joining in a show. They literally drive the show crazy.
In this post, we’ve enlisted the top 20 celebs who waste on live TV, from UFC Hall Of Fame inductee Chuck Liddell with his strange demeanor on “Good Morning Texas” to Lily Allen bickering with Sir Elton John onstage. Scroll down to check out these celebs who waste on live TV.

#20 The Cast of “Cheers”

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

“Cheers” is one of the most legendary sitcoms of all time. The sitcom's cast was also well-recognized when it was on-air. In particular, they made classic early ’90s flashback fun when they appeared on NBC The Tonight Show.
At this time, the cast of Cheers went all in and hit the bar hard. Needless to say, they made the show flawed. Leno – the host of the show, stumbled through some questions and was met with drunken ramblings from them. He even regarded the entire thing as a “mistake”.

#19 Emma Thompson

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

We all love Emma Thompson for her breathtaking charm and funny talking at shows she appears in. However, her appearance at the Golden Globes 2014 seems different. As the award let the drinks flow freely throughout the night, Thompson perhaps drank a lot, resulting in her weird behavior when presenting the award for Best Screenplay.
The “Years and Years” actress showed up with a martini in one hand and her shoes in the other. And to open the envelope revealing the winner, she ultimately tossed the shoes. That caused a stir and tied audiences into knots.

#18 Lily Allen

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

Lily Allen is infamous for her outrageous antics. Her appearance in “GQ Men of the Year awards 2008” is an example. She showed up “overdressed and overdrunk,” and insisted on quibbling with Sir Elton John onstage. Sir John meanwhile tried to curb the tiff by making quite the declaration. Since becoming sober, Allen said, “Getting clean is the BEST thing I ever did, and I've done a lot of cool sh**.”

#17 U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

In the Women's World Cup in 2019, the US women's soccer team defeated the Netherlands. A reason to celebrate, yes? There was a ton of champagne present. The team attended a rooftop pool party and a drunken liquor cruise on a private yacht in addition to having events in the locker room, on the flight home, and during the march through Manhattan.
They made an appearance on "Good Morning America" in the midst of all of this, where the consequences of the celebrations were glaringly obvious. Others of the athletes had sunglasses on, some appeared to be drunk, and some appeared to be suffering from excruciating hangovers. The cheers, the lights, and the applause are all potential hangover triggers.

#16 Andy Dick

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

There have been so many times Andy Dick battled his demons in the public eye. In 2018, Dick streamed himself relaxing in his living room, but he was promptly banned from the platform when he interrupted the very uninteresting show by snorting something off the back of his hand. Dick took part in the podcast aDICKted in 2021 to finally exorcize his demons with the assistance of professionals, friends, and family. He's still on the road to sobriety.

#15 Chuck Liddell

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

UFC Hall of Fame inductee Chuck Liddell was at the summit of his career in 2007. In the same year, Warner Bros. and the UFC collaborated to promote the new movie "300". On "Good Morning Texas," Liddell was being interviewed to promote the movie, and viewers immediately picked up on his... unique demeanor. At one point, the interviewer really questioned him if he was okay because things were acting so weirdly. After a few years, Liddell finally addressed this issue on his podcast, admitting that he had used the sleeping pill Ambien and that it had had an impact on him for a few days.

#14 Phillip Schofield & Holly Willoughby

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

“This Morning” has won a few National Television Awards and has also been one of the most long-running shows in the UK. In 2016, hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby made regular appearances on the show, having partied all night at the awards ceremony.
However, neither host had time to get home, so they both arrived dressed for the evening before and were still a little bit, shall we say, affected. To their credit, the two acknowledged their situation and even presented a few clips of the antics from the previous evening. Despite wearing soiled clothes and getting little sleep, they also managed to look somewhat well.

#13 John Stamos

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

With the aid of his "Full House '' co-star Jodie Sweetin, John Stamos decided to quit drinking in 2015 after being accused of driving under the influence. However, he made this appearance on the Australian program "Kerri-Anne '' years before he made that decision, so host Kerri-Anne Kennerley was in for a struggle. Some of the interviews take place with Stamos holding her in a side hug while talking about deceased celebrities. Stamos clarified the matter in a 2009 interview, claiming that he was jet-lagged, using sleeping pills, and inebriated at the time of this performance. Gotta say props to Kerri-Anne for keeping her composure, and props to Stamos for choosing to do what’s right for himself by getting sober.

#12 Johnny Depp

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

Depp has been open about his battles with booze and narcotics, which have plagued him for most of his life. In fact, he claimed that he first used drugs as a young child. Although he has experienced periods of recovery, his attendance at the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards raised concerns among his fans and allies that he had relapsed. Depp behaved similarly to his most well-known persona, Captain Jack Sparrow while presenting an award; at one point, he even used profanity. Before he could even introduce the film he was presenting, he was eventually interrupted by snippets from it.

#11 Chris O’Dowd

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

The UK comedic sketch/talk show "The Last Leg" featured Chris O'Dowd, who obviously made the most of the available libations. This one is a little lighter-hearted, and the show merely recognized the situation's humor. O'Dowd essentially just blathered on while yet managing to be amazingly wordy and eloquent despite everything. The following day, in response to a scathing criticism on Twitter, O'Dowd stated: "I feel quite humiliated. It's a buzzed comic on a late-night chat show on Channel 4, though, to keep things in perspective.

#10 Mark Wahlberg

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

Guests on "The Graham Norton Show" are accustomed to receiving drinks while chit-chatting on the couch. This, according to the Irish host, helps smooth over awkward or especially abrasive conversations between visitors. But in other situations, it can lead to... other outcomes.
This 15-minute interview with Mark Wahlberg in 2013 seemed to go on forever, especially as Wahlberg kept interrupting guests and made out with both Sarah Silverman and the presenter. After a while, things calm down—possibly because Norton claims Walhberg dozed off. But, surprise! According to Marky Mark, the entire situation was planned as a "bit" with Silverman and was just intended to be a joke.

#9 Anna Nicole Smith

Celebrities Wasted on live TV

Fans were concerned about Anna Nicole Smith's health after her participation at the 2004 American Music Awards because of her erratic and unpredictable behavior on numerous occasions, including on talk shows and her own brief-lived reality series. The presenter gave us some memorable statements in the brief time she was on stage. Later, Smith denied being drunk. Larry Birkhead, Smith's daughter's father, said that Smith's behavior at the AMAs was influenced by a combination of nerves, lack of sleep, prescription medications given to her by a doctor, and the two seizures she'd had the night before the ceremony, ten years after her death from an accidental drug overdose.

#8 Tracy Morgan

This comic was well-known for portraying a parody of himself on 30 Rock, and both on the program and throughout his stand-up routines, he played up his partying habits for laughs. However, Morgan was acting seriously during his appearance on El Paso's KVIA morning show and was obviously still recovering from a night out at the neighborhood strip club. Despite the interviewer's best attempts, things quickly became awkward when Morgan decided to participate in a "mating call" by taking off his shirt. Even the 30 Rock writers struggled to concoct the ridiculous piece.

#7 Courtney Love

Courtney Love absolutely enjoys the rock and roll lifestyle. Kurt Loder was in the middle of interviewing Madonna at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards when Courtney Love decided to make a surprise entrance. To the dismay of the Material Girl, Loder politely extended an invitation to Love to participate in the interview, which the Hole frontwoman eagerly accepted. Love then took over the entire program and talked about a variety of subjects, including astrophysics and fashion. Madonna eventually had enough, but Courtney persisted, conducting most of the remaining portion of the interview from the floor.

#6 Danny DeVito

What results when alcohol and lack of sleep are combined? This. DeVito arrived for this infamous interview with The View in 2006 still intoxicated from an all-night binge. Except for the political diatribe, the ensuing interview was exactly like a Drunk Uncle segment in real life. DeVito displayed a variety of comical behaviors while channeling his inner Frank Reynolds, and even rambled through Deck the Halls' whole plot. The session was eventually ended by Rosie O'Donnell, but not before the drunk actor displayed inappropriate behavior.

#5 Andy Cohen

At the ringing in of the year 2022, CNN's Andy Cohen frequently deviated from the script, going on a rant about the previous mayor of New York City, Bill De Blasio, attacking the lead singer of the iconic rock band Journey, and making fun of Ryan Seacrest and the rival ABC broadcast crew. It appears that everything has been forgiven because the network addressed his behavior and said that he will return for the broadcast the following year.

#4 Oliver Reed

Oliver Reed had a long acting career that spanned from the 1950s until he died in 1999. He was also well-known for his drinking. The erratic Reed has made numerous public appearances where he has appeared inebriated. Consider this performance from the talk show "The Word" in the 1990s, where he speaks eloquently and impressively while also aggressively demanding the host to shut up at one point. A contradicting version of Reed's alleged drunken antics may be found in his biography: that he wasn't always as wasted as he appeared and that he only behaved that way because he was urged to.

#3 Bill Murray

Bill Murray typically possesses all positive qualities: a distinguished comedic career, entertaining talk show appearances, and an air of confidence. However, the larger they are, the harder they fall. The comedian discovered that the hard way during a drunken appearance on The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell in 2015, Murray wandered onto the set of the somber news program after appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman after consuming a large amount of alcohol. The appearance brought O'Donnell nothing but derision from Murray, especially after he fell off his stool.

#2 James Brown

In a 1988 interview on CNN's Sonya Live, the "Godfather of Soul" opened by singing "Livin' in America." and kept going back to it. And, dare I say it, things only grew stranger from there. The funk great was actually on air to talk about some horrific claims, despite his happy disposition. The entire interview was a disaster because Brown steered the host's questions in the wrong direction with a string of catchy sound bites. The infamous video continues to dwell in obscurity and even reappeared after Jordan Peele produced a parody of it in 2015.

#1 Steve-O

Steve-O is a shoo-in for this list due to his notorious hard-partying ways as he was his dramatic stunts. In a 2005 appearance on Too Late with Adam Carolla, his self-destructive behavior was on full show. During this interview, the stuntman broke the set, wrestled with the host, and just managed to keep his pants on. Due to a severe drug addiction that was made worse by injuries he experienced while filming Jackass, he entered psychiatric therapy in 2008. Fans were given a glimpse into how an intervention helped Steve-O change his life in the enlightening documentary "Steve-O: Demise and Rise," which aired in 2009. Thankfully, Steve-O has maintained his sobriety since 2008. Adam Carolla and his audience are undoubtedly appreciative of that.
