"I cannot wait for all of you in our community to get the chance to see these wonderful new tiger cubs. There are so few tigers left in the world that the birth of these cubs is a great benefit to the population of these endangered species." -Jeff Sailer, President & CEO of the Toledo Zoo.

Amur tiger, known as the Siberian tiger, is a subspecies of the Panthera tigris Tigris native to the Russian Far East and Northeast China. In the 20th century, Siberian tigers were hunted in large quantities, pushing the species to near extinction with only 50 individuals left in the wild. Fortunately, with intensive conservation efforts, their population has increased and reached 480–540 individuals in the Russian Far East in 2015, including 100 cubs.

As the Siberian tiger is classified as endangered, the birth of two tiger cubs at the Toledo Zoo means a lot to the conservation of this species. One month after the birth, two tiger cubs were officially named Alexei and Rory. They are growing bigger and stronger every day. Visitors to the zoo can now see them in the enclosure. So let's go to the Toledo Zoo to meet these cute fur babies now.
