Seems That "Princess Diaries 3" Is Underway
We first learnt "The Princess Diaries 3" was in the works back in January 2019 when Anne Hathaway casually stated "there is a script" that was just waiting to be written and adapted. Back then, the actress appeared on "Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen" and spilled the beans on something we all discreetly wanted to know.Upon being questioned whether “The Princess Diaries 3” was being produced, Hathaway responded, "I want to do it, Julie [Andrews] wants to do it, and Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it.” We certainly had a lot of questions! Chris Pine, will he be there? Fat Louie, is he still with us? When will Raven-Symoné be back? Can we anticipate another unforgettable sleepover?
Hathaway further commented: "We all really want it to happen, but we don't want to do it unless it's perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it . . . we're working on it."
We now have official word that the adored franchise's third entry will be released. According to sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter on November 15, the upcoming film would be a "continuation" of the series rather than a reboot and will be written by "Supergirl" writer Aadrita Mukerji. Although Hathaway has not formally agreed to participate, her prior words and other factors have supporters hoping for the best.
Is there a previous cast member that is adamant about coming back? It’s Mandy Moore. The actress said to Drew Barrymore on the July 29 episode of the latter’s eponymous talk show: "My character was sort of the nemesis to Anne Hathaway's character in the first film, and she was so mean, I feel like maybe there's no place for her." Moore said she would be glad to return as Lana.
But Barrymore quickly considered how it would work and proposed that perhaps Lana might turn a new leaf. Moore replied: "The other angle is, like, redemptive: she's done a 180, she's turned her life around, and she and Mia become really good friends. So I would be game."
In the meantime, Julia Andrews, aka Queen Dowager Clarisse, stated that she is still interested while making an appearance on "The Talk" in 2020: "I'm getting awfully old and crotchety. I'm not sure if it's the right timing, but I think to work with Annie would be lovely again. And, sure, I'd be up for it."
She continued by saying that the late director Garry Marshall, who was described as "the nuts and bolts of it all," would be missed. Marshall passed away in 2016. Actress just received an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Lady Whistledown on "Bridgerton."
The cast and release date for "Princess Diaries 3" are still unknown. We do, however, know that when they do, it won't be late—we'll all just be there on time.
