On top of that, the Dude and Walter barely shed any tears after Donny dies from a heart attack. They did make it up to him at the end of the movie. The scene where Dude and Walter sprinkle Donny's ashes over an oceanside cliff will forever remain one the most emotional movie montages ever.

2. The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel tricked us into thinking it was a funny story of a hotel owner and his assistant. Everything was fine until M. Gustave by a fascist military squad while defending his lobby boy Zero from unjust accusations. His line was repeated in Zero's voiceover narration, "There are still faint glimmers of civilization surviving in this savage abattoir that was once known as humanity.” That sentence just hit us deep in the guts.

3. Mrs. Doubtfire

Mrs. Doubtfire got a pretty realistic ending for a comedy movie. Daniel was allowed back into Miranda and their kids’ lives, but they could never be a happy family again. Daniel could only visit the kids sometimes unattended, not getting back together with Miranda.
This is quite true for many separated families. They have to learn to get along, not try to do obnoxious gestures to bring a family back together. Daniel’s tearful speech on his new television program about the value of family is the perfect ending.

4. Life Is Beautiful

Life is Beautiful won three Oscars, and they deserved every one of them. The grim and dark reality of the movie setting contradicts the comedy storyline but complements it really well. Roberto Benigni's tales to keep his son from learning the truth about their terrible war are both funny and emotional. It shows us that even in the most horrendous war, there is still hope for humanity. Life Is Beautiful will live rent-free in our heads forever.

5. Intouchables

Intouchables shows that when social norms are broken, beautiful bonds will grow. François Cluzet and Omar Sy are total opposites. They don’t trust each other at first and both put on a wall around themselves. However, as they slowly warm up to their companion, the walls are down, and their friendship blossoms. Marley & Me is a very meaningful movie, especially for people who own pets. We started with Marley, a lovable yet troublesome dog like any other puppies in our home. The whole story feels so relatable that we can’t help but cry when Marley is put to sleep after suffering an attack of gastric dilation volvulus. The ending haunts us in our dreams for years.

7. Love Actually

Harry and Karen’s marriage falls apart by the end of Love Actually. Karen finally realized that there was no significant romantic gesture for her. Her husband was having an affair with one of his staff members instead. Will they be able to mend their relationship? We will never know.
Sarah and Karl also didn’t have a happy ending. Sarah has to give up her long-standing crush to take care of her brother. In the end, she sacrifices her love for her family.

500 Days Of Summer is the perfect example of how a good relationship doesn’t always get a happy ending. The story was told through Tom, who was hopelessly in love with Summer.
